Hello everyone, few days ago I took possession of anemone from neglected tank. Not sure how long things were bad, but there was no water circulation because water level was below sump due to water evaporation, hair algae everywhere, just sand, few euphylia corals and this anemone. Nem was upright and extended but just floating on top of the sand. Foot was not attached to anything.

At 1st I thought it was LTA, but not so sure any more. Tried to get it into crevice between rock and sand (dug sand out to glass) nem attached to rocks only and stayed there for about a day, then it decided to leave and has now found a crevice in the rocks that it went into. No interest in sand what so ever, so I took LTA out of equation.

It looks to be purple with purple tips, however looks brown now and tentacles are short and stubby. Foot is mostly white, changing to pink as it gets closer to the bottom of it. It is quite big, I would say foot is about 3 inches in diameter when fully inflated. It decided to float around last night and was sucked into gyre pump. Not there for long and not a lot of it was sucked in, but it doesnt help with stress and color.

Here are few pics of it. 1st 2 are of it when it attached 1st time after I put it in the tank, and last is in current location (used flash light to get more light for better picture. In current spot there isnt a lot of light, so not sure how long it stays there. Hoping it gets out soon. I cant nor would I attempt to get it out, but should I try feeding it. Mouth was open a bit earlier and it did catch some food when I fed the tank. Tentacles are quite sticky so thats a good sign.

Thanks for the help.

I’m not an expert at identifying nems, especially when they are stressed. I think @AlyciaMarie might be able to help! One thing I would suggest is to put an anemone guard on your gyre. That will protect the wanderers!

Thanks very much for the responses. Silly thing moved even further into that crevice and I barely see it. There is a cave at the bottom of it so I am hoping it will find it's way out. If not I may have a problem.

I am so confused by this nem. After moving around for about a week, it looks like it found a spot that it likes for now. Issue is that it is a cave that doesn't get light inside it. It stays inside during the day, i need flash light to see it, but once lights are about to go out it extends its tentacles out the cave and stays like that for hours during the night. As of 2 days ago it extends during the day as well, so that's good, but there is still barely any light coming to it. It had bleached somewhat, so I fed it piece of shrimp yesterday and some muscles today. It is still sticky and it gobbled up food both days right away. Mouth was open so definitely was hungry. I don't know how often I should keep feeding it to get it back to color up and healthy. From what I read some say every day, some say once a week, and anywhere in between.
