I noticed this on my zoas before and I pulled it off once but I thought it may have just been some dead flesh but it appears to keep growing over time. I am thinking this is some sort of a sponge like: http://www.melevsreef.com/critter/white-sponge?hide=true

Its sponge, harmless filter feeder. If you want to remove use a soft toothbrush or tweezers.

Sponge while typically harmless can suffocate polyps if it gets out of hand. We let it grow on the rocks and in the sump but removed some occasionally

Its like 90% of the time its a sponge but you are always amazed at how different they can look.
