Something that is way too common unfortunately. Too often, I see people recommending all the brand new name brand lights to new reefers and they just buy it because someone else told them to. There’s definitely a million ways to run a reef tank. But at the end of the day, I’m sure you got some quality lights that are going to last a long time
the lights have worked well. they’ve grown a lot of things for me. but i still kick myself realizing how much more light coverage AND par i could’ve had if i was more patient..

as it stands, i’m looking to buy a used hydra 32hd with the rms mount, and if i can’t source one i’m buying 2 smatfarms and an aliexpress LED bar

JBJ Orion SL-165 on my 120 gallon Soft Coral tank. This is a side shot, so the perspective is off(everything is really more spaced out). The little birds nest is an experiment and my only planned SPS.

How much on my current tank? My upgrade? Or total over 17 years??? Lol

I'm around $1000 on my current 120. 2 halides and 2 T5s. This was everything brand new.

My upgrade will use my 2 halides plus add a 3rd. I also got 2 60" ReefBrite XHO bars. So around $2000 total for a 250g peninsula.

I'm well past $10k total over 17 years. Thankfully, I find out pretty quick I don't like a light so I move on and recoup some of the initial investment.

My current 120

Was thinking about getting the Orphek OR3's, but unfortunately, they wouldn't fit in my hood. Unfortunate because the Orphek lights are incredible

My new setup will be my first large sumped setup and I will be using around 2.5k-3k in lighting (photon pros and lumenbars). In the past my Nanos and picos have been lit by usually primes or cheaper ebay/Amazon leds.

You really only need one of those on the nano tanks if you want to have a great-looking tank. But the bigger the tank, the more lights you need and the more expensive the lighting gets, unfortunately.

Yeah, I run a couple of 6500k bulbs in there as well. Not a big fan of the overly blue look hehe….I guess starting with 10k halides will do that ;)
I’m only a fan on the blue look because most white fixtures today don’t look natural and blue brings out the crazy colors of those corals. Hopefully overtime technology gets better and cheaper for more people can have stunning lights like that

I said this above, but you probably didn’t see it, anyways, I was considering getting one of the OR3s but unfortunately the smallest size couldn’t fit in my hood. Off by about 2 inches unfortunately. They’re some amazing lights.
