What makes you angry about this hobby

Vendors who make assertions about their products or services that they either know are wrong, or should know they are wrong, because it helps sell their product or service.

There is far to little of "maybe I need to validate that my product does what it claims and in the way it claims" before I sell it claiming it does.

Id have to agree with most and say dinos. Ive fought algea with decent success a few times. Ive fought dinos in 3 seperate tanks and the time it takes is relentless. Tank looks so rough when dinos are everywhere.

Hi everyone
What gets on your goat about things in this hobby. Share your anger and vent it
When first starting out in this hobby I trusted the advice of a local coral/fish store owner with "25 years of experience" and that advice totally screwed up my tank for a few months.
As with all mistakes made though, I did learn from it.

For me the cost of everything the rising prices and pointless methods that suppose to help but really stick to the basics and you would be fine.

I know everyone has to make a profit but I remember I use to get think corals shipped to my house for great prices and when I say think I mean like 6-12 inch frags

Oh the good ole days

Fish shipping costs. Regardless of DOA policies which are supposed to set your mind at ease but I have had dead fish shipped to me several times from what are supposed to be some of the most reputable places to get them from and while they are good about given you the store credit the shipping costs really add up. It is very discouraging when it has happened several times.

This is a universal one, I didn’t have time to read through all the responses, and has probably been mentioned many times already. What makes me angry about this hobby is when a fellow reefer asks me what makes me angry about this hobby! 🤪 Just kidding @Nano_Man, I love ya!

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a “pyramid “?

This is a pyramid:

This is also a pyramid:

And this is my pyramid:

It's a relatively close relative of the copperband butterflyfish, which is probably the most reliable fish for aiptasia control. The pyramid butterfly adjusts to captive life much easier and will school in a large enough tank, and they will eat aiptasia (but not as reliably as copperbands do). They're mostly reef-safe, but like every other fish that eats aiptasia, they will sometimes expand their diet to other corals. Mine will eat acan-family corals if he's hungry enough, but thus far my regular feedings + a sheet of nori in the morning seems to keep him off the acans.

They are a beautiful fish!

They are! Their coral-eating habits mean I can't just endorse them wholesale for everyone, but they can be a good alternative to a copperband for anyone who isn't confident about that more delicate fish. I'm not sure what the success rate of getting them to eat aiptasia is, I just know that mine keeps the display clear of any that he can get at. I think there's one aiptasia he can't reach, but every other aiptasia that I've spotted in the display is gone by the next time I look for it.

Import/export laws (and cost) on captive bred and aquaculture’s goods….. if I lived near a coast I could understand restrictions but I live in the middle of Ontario there’s no saltwater near me and if a place is sustainably producing aquacultured rock and captive bred stock why should I have to get a billion permits to import it without having to drive across the border to drive it back as a land border claim? Makes 0 sense to make the environmentally friendly part of the hobby that actually saves wild environments cost prohibitive to the average person.

Next to that it’s the cost of good lights- I miss the days when it was T5HOs and the price (and availability) of them 😭 now a days there’s only a few brands so hardly as much competition, back in the day every brand and their offshoots had a light system on the market.
