yes, i know. im very thankful for all the help ive gotten and what ive learned. but sometimes you run around trying to figure out whats wrong with a coral and still loose it and still have no idea why!

That everything needs wifi and a phone app.

Price.

The fact that bad ATOs have pauze buttons but good ATOs dont

That there is so much misinformation going around.

People who dont understand the basics yet act like they do but dont want to listen.

Price.

The fact so many good companies arent selling in the EU.

Germans.

That every single tank doesn't already have a Random Flow Generator® nozzles in it - I mean, there is literally a pre-configured flow kit designed to work for nearly every brand and model aquarium on the market today

gets my goat, every time 😛

Oh, and Rusty Tweezers - hate those too....

Number one: the CONSTANT pushing of corals. There is so much more to this “hobby” than corals.
Number two: the meaningless banter from people who are obviously lonely.
Number three: the misinformation from those who think they know more than they do.

Getting a coral from the store that looks wonderful only to get home and find it looks exactly like something I already have or is dull, etc.

Please just sell the corals under light that is normal vs unrealistic light that makes colors pop but most will never see.

People with minimal experience giving advice like it is the law. There are many ways to care for and build a beautiful reef/fish aquarium. Gotta do what works for you best.

Maybe it’s just this website or the current times, but that did not seem to be the case when I joined R2R back in 2008, under a different moniker.

Nothing about reefing makes me mad, that’s why I’m into it. I am very comfortable not being in control all the time. Everyday is an adventure.

The fact that you can no longer find decent sized coral. I started this hobby in 1994. Only had to leave because of Harvey. As of March 2024 I started back. Then let us say the Red Sea tank that got bad seams. Why is Redsea still selling tanks?
LFS that have no clue. They don't even try to help. I would really like to find 5 inch size corals.
The biggest problem is price for tiny coral.

Seeing small tanks stocked with to many fish or fish that will outgrow it in short time. Also seeing tanks that haven't been set up long enough so support the livestock that have been tossed into it. Impatient people that want the established reef tank NOW. Anyone that didn't spend at least a month researching the needs of the livestock they want to keep before doing so. Anyone that thinks they'll get a bigger tank when the current fish outgrow their nano.

Then I have some coffee and get over it. But to be honest, even with my first saltwater tank I had spent quite a while reading magazines and books before I took the plunge. It seems like more people leap before looking these days.

Now get off my lawn. 😁
Haha i see a lot of this! I always worry about overstocking with my 2 gal, but i only have two snails and a hermit crab. I got into this hobby by accident... my sister kidnapped the hermit crab and brought it home from the beach 🙄 so i got thrown head first, fully panicking, and no idea what i was doing!! So glad i joined r2r so i can have experienced people give helpful feedback as i make my way through the hobby.

- The unknowns as to why my tank has a bacteria/algae bloom.
- Coral dying within days of putting it in my tank.
- LFS not checking their stock for diseases or pests on their corals.

Misinformation!
The vendor that says you should keep your alk just like the ocean with an alk of 8-9. I won't mention the vendor and have bought some nice corals from them.
Average ocean alk is 6.5.

Being out smarted by a fish. Then you have to destroy a tank to get the little MF out!!! Ended up having to take the canopy off too! And lost a red sea light in the tank and the other one fell off and broke. 😑😑😑 this was so fun to do with my shoulder too.

The. Gatekeeping.

Especially in this forum, which is why I'm almost never here anymore.

Every single post, if you have ANY kind of question that might even be tangentially related, the FIRST thing you get in response is a string of four words. The same four words Every Dang Time:

What. Are. Your. Parameters?

And people will REFUSE to help you unless you supply them. The answer can be totally unrelated to your parameters and somebody is STILL going to demand you supply them like you have to "prove" you know what you're doing before you're "worthy" of their advice. The assumption here (and elsewhere) is that *everybody* with a question is a complete beginner without a single clue.

And heaven forbid you're a woman. Boy howdy, you'd better have those parameters in triplicate and NOTARIZED. Because what you "think" you've observed in your tank is *clearly* not what you've actually observed. And your incredibly detailed explanation? That's going to be completely skipped over and not read AT ALL because men who started their first reef tank 6 months ago Know What They're Talking About, but YOU don't because your 20 years of experience Doesn't Count.

It IS possible to have a respectful discussion with other keepers without gatekeeping. Too many of you simply enjoy lording it over others too much.
