My tank has finished cycling and I am seeing brown diatoms and I have added 2 astrea snails 2 nessarius 2 scarlet hermits and one blue claw to start cleaning up the tank.

I am unsure what this little seaweed looking algae is but it's growing up in the substrate here and there. Will the inverts I purchased clear this out? Or is there something else?

I plan on getting a watchmen goby very soon just waiting for tank to settle a little.

Here is another shot of a different one.

It seems the original ones were eaten by crabs but they will probably grow back...

Sounds like this was a new tank? How do you think it was introduced? Was the substrate from another system? Live rock obtained from where? Just might be helpful info for others.

It was a new tank dry Rock from marinedepot and caribesea sand. It is growing only out of sand which makes me think that's where it came from

if it looks like a fern it could bryopsis or caulerpa.

that would suck if you just finished a cycle on a new system and had to deal with bryopsis right off the bat. is there any on the rocks that you can see?

If it's only on the sand, I would shut down the pumps and scoop the small sections of sand out that have the stems sticking out. Don't pull them, scoop under them with pumps off.

i wouldn't try any treatments as of now. just remove the small portions of sand and let the micro fauna develop over time. it may subside and not rear it's head again. if it persists then there are other methods you may consider.

I wouldn’t have expected the new sand and dry rock to bring it in. Nothing else? Clean up crew, etc?

I surgically removed the algae... Let's hope I don't have to use the reef flux HD
