Most expensive i've seen is the same as above.

[EDIT] To be clear, that is the exact fish I have... got it off diver's den and they take better pictures than me ;)

Lineatus wrasse male, which jumped into the overflow and then from there out of the tank. Lasted 3 days.

I had 2 it was attacking the sub female/male..... chased it around to a rock to be never seen again.

Mine is my eight line flasher. He was 230 which was why he stayed at the LFS til they ran a 25% off sale and I got him for 175 ish. He has fish up to around a grand in there.

With fish, I don't really use the dollar value as a standard for judging a fish's worth.
I have over twenty fish in my tanks, and not a one of them cost me over $80.
Although, now that my female Lamarck's Angelfish is transitioning to a male that would make it the "most expensive" fish I own.

The most expensive fish that I have ever seen have all been in a certain someone's office tanks; captive bred Clarion Angelfish, Narcosis Angelfish, Flathead Perch, Pelicier's Perchlet, Dr. Seuss Soapfish, Magnificent Goby pair and so on...
What a lucky guy!

Umm I haven't ever paid more than 325 for a fish. $300 is my arbitrary cutoff notwithstanding taxes. I probably have a dozen or two fish at that price range.

Value wise my Red Sea regal angel Goliath in his giant glory would probably command 4-500 retail. I paid only 220
