With fish, I don't really use the dollar value as a standard for judging a fish's worth.
I have over twenty fish in my tanks, and not a one of them cost me over $80.
Although, now that my female Lamarck's Angelfish is transitioning to a male that would make it the "most expensive" fish I own.

The most expensive fish that I have ever seen have all been in a certain someone's office tanks; captive bred Clarion Angelfish, Narcosis Angelfish, Flathead Perch, Pelicier's Perchlet, Dr. Seuss Soapfish, Magnificent Goby pair and so on...
What a lucky guy!

Umm I haven't ever paid more than 325 for a fish. $300 is my arbitrary cutoff notwithstanding taxes. I probably have a dozen or two fish at that price range.

Value wise my Red Sea regal angel Goliath in his giant glory would probably command 4-500 retail. I paid only 220
