Looking for good news or bad. Any new additions? Anything in the works? New equipment? New problems? Old problems that need a solution?

Let's hear it and see it, if you have pics.

Well me still fighting cyano and high nitrates. Do you have any remedies for cyano

iiluisi - have you checked your phosphates? High nitrates and phosphates is more than likely the cause of your cyano. Also, what are you doing to lower your nitrates?

Week from saturday my main pump needed new bearings. So Daniel and i got new parts for it and the new bearing lasted 6 days til the whole pump died. Just order a new type and brand today in hope to have it here by friday( groupbuy frag arrival) right now im using one of the skimmer pumps(eheim 1262 to move water from sump to display and im using some cheap powerheads to help move the water around. Buying plumbing parts today so i can operate the skimmer with only one pump as its not been on since last thursday.

Oh and my honey doo milli is knocking on deaths door.

Been a great week for me :)

I am sand, rock, salt and, water short of having my 110 ready to go. And I have Atomic Reef getting ready to build me an ATO box. Gotta do the leak test and I want to paint the drain and return PVC in the over flow too. Getting pretty close.

Nothing new here except that I have gotten a bit of PH fluxuation lately. not sure why with the alk above 9 dkh. jumped to 8.25 saturday evening and was 8.09 this morning. Havent put my thumb on the reasoning.

Nice adds Mike and Jay!

Cheng, you just got a 180 and you want to upgrade already?!

Sorry for your troubles Greg, equipment failures are the worst.

Cyano seems to plague everyone at some time or another. If a tank is fairly new, I think it just comes with the territory. You have a whole lot of balancing acts going on. In terms of bacteria. Just when your biological filtration/good bacteria is getting good, we mess it up by adding 2 new corals and a fish, and then your tank balances out again to the new bio-load, and then you add something else. Cyano is a bacteria and when their is an imbalance in the tank you give it a chance to take hold. Along with the usual suspects: over feeding, lack of flow, and bad lighting etc.
Then you have a more mature system and things are coasting along nicely, and then suddenly it shows up. There are various reasons for this, and they usually fall under the category of a build up of phosphates or nitrates or adding something or even taking something away, Some sort of change in general.
All of this to say, that once you cut back on your feeding, get better flow through the tank, your photo period is good, and you dont have mass amounts of detritus building up somewhere, and you have the right skimmer if you are running bio-pellets etc. and you still have cyano, its time to fight the bacteria with some more bacteria. Dosing beneficial nitrifying bacteria to the system to regain balance has worked for me on 3 occasions. I highly suggest using Microbe Lift 'special blend'. It can be found at Petco. I also know there has been a few folks that have had good success with chemi clean, but i have no experience with it. Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox now....:blah:

Anybody else got anything going on?

I have a plan to tie in a frag tank to my main system soon. Adding a new larger sump to handle the extra water volume and have to build a stand, and figure out the best way to hang the lights.

This is true...but I'm struggling with the money invested in it, when it could go toward the 75 gallonish Reef Savvy I just got a quote for... I priced out the JBJ RL 30, pinching here and there and I'm still up around $1000-$1,500, main variables being the light/pump/controller... If the house doesn't sell by Dec. I'll probably get a tank of some sort then...might just place an order in Sept for Dec delevery of the RS... I do miss having one... The 40g breeder freshwater is "peaceful" though...going back to freshwater was like graduating college and then going back to the 5th grade for graduate school...no offense to FW fans...been thinking about a planted tank actually...

OK, OK I am working on my build. I need to post an update or two. I have just been getting pulled in a million directions and posted my last updates while out of town. Someone turned off my AC when I left town I guess the thought process was "saving money" pretty expensive way to save money...GRRRRR.... I promise to never let my tank be left in the hands of a non reefer. I am working on painting the trim on the tank and getting the walls of my fish room setup.

Still building my LED fixture, dreaming of a bigger tank, and going FOWLR. I have the nano cube with a couple of corals and a pair of clowns. I'm letting it mature longer to add more corals and maybe another fish to it. My plan is to go 180 gal RR or the 155 bowfront (if still available) and put a bunch of fish in it. I will have my DIY LEDs over it with a floating canopy housing them and controlled by an Apex. I'm going to run biopellets and a fuge for nutrient controll and maybe throw in a bag of chemipure elite if needed. I want to eventually also get a pair of tunze powerheads and run them through the controller. Patience!!!

Heres some shots of birdsnest I got from dowtish. From when I got them to now. First pic is when they were new green birdsnest on left, red is on right.

Killer growth Matt! I always thought the pink bird grew faster, but obviously not in YOUR tank.
