that the colony looks healthy! (i.e. not bleached, no bad crabs, no parasites, and to a lessor extent if theres allot of strange algae on the plug/rock)

I'm into color and growth pattern as well.

I think growth pattern more. I won't buy a coral if it has a nice color if I don't like the way it grows.

I will buy a coral that has a great growth pattern but the color isn't perfect because I always think that the color will eventually change with the tank lighting/placement.

After importing hundreds of colonies I know by just looking at them which types just don't do well for me. When I go shopping I avoid those types like the plague no matter how healthy they look or how colorful.

And now they must be aquacultured frags for me to purchase them. Could care less about the name.

I am a rookie to SPS but I picked color and growth pattern.....Probably color being number 1 on the list. I don't need brown sticks.

I really like interesting color and growth patterns myself. They do not have to be LE or rare just pleasing to my eyes.

Color and growth pattern... I could care less if a coral is rare. I buy what I like... I prefer it not rare so it is cheaper... LOL

Growth means nothing to me if the coral has no color. Color all the way

Color matters most to me, followed by growth pattern. However, neither matters to me if the piece is a rip off. What I'm willing to pay is definitely dictated by the appearance of the coral.

Growth pattern followed by color. The others don't really matter, except maybe for polyp extension when it comes to milles :D

Color and growth. But I do have a week spot for the truly rare. I don’t care what color or growth pattern if it is really out of the ordinary. I don’t have any rare or “rare” SPS right now. One of my favorite oddballs currently is 2 heads of branching bubble coral. It grows like a frogspawn or torch, but has the heads of a bubble coral. Don’t know how unusual it is or even if it’s worth anything. I bought it just because I had never heard of or seen it before.
