I've heard a lot here lately about "Respect the Bird." But to me Thanksgiving and Christmas go together. It's like one big Holiday Shindig. So when do you start your celebration? And what do you do in preparation for the festivities?

For me, I love everything about this time a year, and the quicker I can get started the more I can enjoy my favorite season! I buy egg nog as soon as it hits the shelves (the weekend before Halloween this year). We put our Christmas decorations up the second week of November, which consists of a transformation of the inside of my house and elegant lighting on the outside! I usually start watching the home shopping networks for great gift ideas about now, and kick off my full on shopping on Black Friday.

What are some of your holiday traditions?!

I think any decorations, tv ads, or any x-mas stuff placed in circulation before black Friday is to early.

I am normally forced to put the tree up about a week before x-mas. We have ferrets and new things to climb can be a pain to their owners.

^ haha! Understood! Our cat can hardly contain herself when all the fun dangley things appear out of no where! :D

Our mall did, too. They actually had the parade last night that ushered Santa in for his season at the mall. We have a lot of people at our get together on my husbands side. Imagine his parents who have 5 children (with spouses now) 19 grandchildren with 3 now married, and 3 great grandchildren to buy for! Glad I only have one! ;)

Yes, we live in north Georgia, and to get a snow around here is usually quite pleasant for most, since it is rare to get something significant. But I realize it is a hardship for many. It snowed Christmas morning last year it was one of the most beautiful things ever! I can't ever remember having a white Christmas.

I wish I could just tell my husband to put everything up and it be done. But if I want something done right I have to do it myself! ;)

One year I was stupid enough to pull the "I'm jewish" card when the GF asked me to get the decorations out of storage. Oh the death stare she gave me. I now get them down ASAP for fear of The Stare.

I usually start putting my christmas lights up on sept 1st, but due to back surgery in august i didnt get started til the other day. I need as much time as i can to get all my lights up though. hehe

Wow! Completely amazing!! We have a house down the road that does this kind of lighting. It's a tradition to visit. I'm sure many have made it their family's tradition to visit yours as well. Thanks for sharing and thanks for giving many people and families a place to build memories. :)

I have quite a few light-o-rama controllers. 9 of them to be exact. I have been going computerized with our house since 2005

if you check out the videos on my site, you will also see that the garage door has a led video wall on it.

I have thought of a bunch of different ways to use it over the fish tank but never went ahead with it

When you get all your lights up, you should do a video and post on here! :)

My wife and I do a small family Christmas. I like to keep Thanksgiving and Christmas separate, and don't put up the winter decorations until after turkey day. The gift buying is actually almost done already this year. We tend to buy when we see something that someone on our list would like rather than waiting.

Wow! That's great! Wish I could say the same!!! :squigglemouth:
