Like most, I started small - 29Gal AIO-2 years ago
Then 40 gal AIO
Then a used 75 Gal with stand Acrylic tank that was scratched and became VERY scratched plus had difficulties setting up the filtration for it.
2 weeks ago, I picked up a 55Gal glass that fit the stand and top and switched it out with the 75Gal - looks gorgeous and there is a lot to be said for the lower profile but I still wanted one with a sump setup and the bottom of the tank is tempered so no drilling.
Today I was offered a 90Gal complete with stand and sump- pumps, some livestock, and heater. Although it may be too long to fit my stand, it is tempting to sell the tank and stand and incorporate everything else into my existing setup and use a HOB overflow.

AAAGGHHH! When does it stop? The prospect of tearing down and moving my system again if enough to give me nightmares.
I don't know what I am going to do. The hobby isn't supposed to be so stressful. (of course, I make it so)

I will NEVER change/update my tank again unless I am forced to move due to my husbands work. (And I have considered giving up the hubby to avoid this situation or...how bad can a long distance marriage really be?!?)

The upgrade itself was not horrible, my LFS really helped BUT My tank went through so many bad "adjustments" while settling in. It has been about 1.5 years and I FINALLY feel like it is really going well again. So much stress to my fish, lost some that I had since day 1. No thank you.

Started with 32gal biocube. 3 years later upgraded to 60 cube. Roughly 3 years later upgraded to a 220 with 75gal fuge. Now I'm contemplating how large of a tank i could put in my wife's office when my mother-in-law dies and use her sitting room as a fish room. Yes, my wife knows my plans. No, I don't hope my MIL dies any time soon lol! Still, should always be prepared.

It doesn't stop. Only hold up is finances.

My suggestion is to consider what you really want to keep. Then get a tank that will hold it.
There are a lot of steps between 75 gallons and 240. I skipped them because slightly bigger tanks would just let me keep more of the same fish I already had.
And once you have a big one whats a couple of smaller ones tagging along.

Think of what you really want and what animals you want to keep. I went through many tanks, until I stopped for a minute and bought what I really wanted all along. Mine was a slick, rimless, high tech version.
