Can anyone tell me who sells the plastic grid that I have seen people use for aquascaping?

+1 to above.

if you go to home improvement/hardware stores and ask for egg crate they look at you funny.

What it actually is called is lighting diffusers for use in dropped ceilings. Which means it diffuses the lights. LOL.

Some to have it in the lighting section but most definately have it in the ceiling tile section.

I went into Lowes and searched all over and couldn't find it. I went to Home Depot and asked an employee for "Light diffuser" since I was sure they didn't call it egg crate. I finally found it myself where the commercial ceiling tiles are. It had a sticker on it that said "EGG CRATE"! :) Still no one there knew what it was.

Well at Lowes it is by the ceiling tiles. At Menards it is over by the wall paneling (nowhere near lighting fixtures or ceiling tiles). I have never looked at Home Depot.

Now you mentioned Aquascaping, what are you going to scape with egg crate? This stuff isn't going to support lots of weight so it isn't really a structure thing unless you are talking about doing a "pond foam" wall or something... I used egg crate on the base of my tank to help distribute the weight of the rocks a bit and let something take the point force instead of the glass bottom of the tank. Other than that I use it for frag racks and skimmer platforms and that's about it.

Wow! Wish I had seen this post sooner. I ordered mine from Bulk Reef Supply. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I've been waiting until it arrives so I can switch out my lights. Have a Biocube hood on the tank that I'm replacing with a Marineland so need the egg crate to keep the inhabitants where they are supposed to be. I could have set this up last weekend if I had known. I drove past Lowe's to get the light! Well, live and learn......

Score!! I just went to pick up all the equipment for the 125g I will be starting this weekend. (Picking up tank tomorrow) I bought the whole system from a LFS that is going out of business. I mentioned to him that I was going to Lowes tonight to get some egg crate. He says "You mean this stuff?" He went into the backroom and came out with a bunch of it & just gave it to me. How cool is that? Plus he had replaced all bulbs in both light fixtures for me. Just a little bit excited.

CDness, that't what I plan on using the egg crate for as well. Maybe a small swim through tunnel or cave too. Will see.
