A Zoa is a Zoa. Colors vary, but I don't think of any of them as "high end".

Take "high end" Zoas and put them next to "regular" Zoas in the same tank and they will perform equally based on the conditions.

Marketing makes them "high end".

Hahaha! If only that were true!

I consider any zoa that costs more than ~$80 per polyp to be "high end"... And I'm not talking WWC pricing. Everything from them is that expensive! :D

Some is marketing, some is difficulty and some is availability. The list posted earlier is a good start.

I am trying to get an idea of which zoas are now considered high end zoa please post some names and pic if you have them. I want to start my collection.

A lot of it is valuation. The newer stuff commands a higher price until it makes it was around so I'm not sure that's the metric you want to use to chose stuff for your garden. Naturally some of these newer strains are expensive because they really are 'special'.

@Dom I hear what you're saying and I disagree with you in part. Some like frankie's acid trips, predators, even gmks are weeds and do well as common strains (nirvanas where onece $100pp too in the spring of 2018). On the other hand OG wolverines, Soul Suckers, dragon glass, emperor v2s and mohicans are just a little more difficult to keep or are melt prone. Stuff like poinsettias, OG (not CK) Bozo birthdays, ultimate chaos and dayglow volcanos are virtually impossible to find and so command a much higher price- and rightfully so. I totally agree with your point in #12.

@rox I would suggest you approach it from the perspective of 'which red, green, blue, purple, orange' strains do I like best and are not overly difficult to keep?' A $30 frag of tazers is just as good as a $100 polyp of black orchids for most folks.

@SchrutesReefs thanks for the shout out. I paid and extra $50 on something from Legendary Corals recently just because I couldn't find enough stuff to get to the $350 'free shipping.' That means we're not the crazy ones right? lol

@nano reef if you're interested I have a nice little mixed batch up in the sales forum with a few 'higher ends'. Otherwise Cherry Corals, Blue Line Corals, and Maria's Coral reef are all worth a visit and offer discounted shipping (if you're in the mid west) or free shipping past a certain point.

I love the classic. They are more colorful imo. Scramble eggs, Rasta, Mandarins, and yes to Gatorades.
I just missed a mini colony of mandarins for 99 cent, He had mini colony of bebb, utter chaos, sakuras sunrise, scrambled eggs all were 99 cent 3 forest fire rhodactis for 10, watermelon chalice .99 and hot pick goni 15 and 4 speckled kraks for 65! I attempted to bid and rejected because of a strike that wasnt my fault(long story) I have been sick every since! I was bidding on the speckled kraks and the others were just a bonus! I had never heard of mandarin orange until the auction but agreed the cheapies are just as nice if not better then the ones I have been spending a fortune for! My plan is cheapies in my tank.. High ends in the frag tank! LOL

@billyocean What are your favorites of the ones you have? Nice collection BTW

@ littlebigreef I will check out what you have! I have acquired quite a few in the last month or so but still o the look out for more and I cant believe Nirvanas were high end in 2018! That scary! I am probably throwing a lot of money down the drain because it a few years most of what I have just got will be crazy cheap! Nirvanas are literally everywhere and crazy cheap. A few months ago my lfs sold me at least 15 or more polyps for 9.99. i think he still has them on his website for that AJsaqariums.com

A few months ago I id one o f the dumbest thing ever! I was doing a WC and the water got below my frag rack and the lights fried all my frags but a few!

Its so much fun replacing corals you already had! LOL

These are much harder to keep, grow, frag and sell than the likes of rastas. And yes people can be successful as I've had all these for over 9 months some up to 3 years. But they're not something that you find on ebay, most sellers don't have quite a few of these(dayglos, strats, ultimate space monster, godbeast). Then you get into more common HE zoas like thermo, hep, Marvin's etc

What high ends grow the fastest? I lost my huge collection last year and buying a lot of them back! I didnt even have them long enough to know which grew fast except for lsoh, frankies, JF kraks and they never put out a polyp in the three months that I had them. My gmk's kept melting but I just got one and its already had a baby! Finally lol

I love Zoas, they are very hardy and grow fast in my tank.
