Which fish should I get?

I’ve asked this question but now I’m getting a bigger tank and need to ask again lol. Yay upgrade!!!!

What can I put in a 100g? I plan on trying my hand at corals.

What I have
- Coral Beauty (I know not 100% reefsafe but too late. I’m really attached to it too)
- Watchman Goby w Pistol Shrimp friend
- Yellowtale Damsel
- hermit crabs, snails, cleaner shrimp

What I really want:
- Clownfish (open to suggestion re kind)
- Royal gramma
- Yellow Wrasse
- Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse (IF I can get some bigger fish that would be compatible with it)

What else? I was hoping my choices would go way up with a 100g vs my current 55 but it appears I was wrong. Again. I may have to go bigger. And I will if I can figure out how to get it down a funky set of stairs to the basement.

A clown pair would be nice, I would avoid any maroon types. Thats just my personal suggestion, they have a tendancy to have an attitude.

I love my royal gramma, but he really doesnt care for my wrasses and sometimes chases them. First time I have heard of an aggressor royal grama.

You could do a yellow wrasse, I have a melenarus which is great and he helps keep the tank clean.

@hdsoftail1065 has a blue streak cleaner who is a model citizen and he enjoys it. I think the only concern here is some fish my find them annoying trying to clean them.

You could go with a couple wrasses for nice color and movement, just make sure they are compatible.

My worry is w the jumping. I know some ppl gamble but I’m just not comfortable w it. Do You have a kid? What kinds of wrasses do you have? What other fish?

In general, most folks will recommend a lid. Screen tops are cheap and easy and work well.
For fairy and flasher wrasses, you definitely need a lid. The yellow wrasse you mentioned (and other Halichoeres) are more likely to go for the sand.

Hi congratulations! I would go with a pair of some type of Ocellaris, percula, or skunk clownfish so as to minimize future compatibility issues. But all clowns are different, I have a 4yo GSM that bites me less than any of my perculas. You yellow wrasse will eat hermits and other small inverts, especially when it hits 4" mark, and with the others I dont recommend purchasing WC fish so I can't comment. Biota has been producing a lot more yellow tangs, that could be a larger fish that would be happy for a number of years, but will eventually outgrow it. Also I really like my elongated dottyback, and its the only species I know that doesnt eat inverts. Avoid LPS and zoa's with the coral beauty, mine eats them like candy, but most softies and sps work.

Neon or shark nose gobies are better alternatives to cleaner wrasses and they are fun to watch. Also, captive bred (ORA). I would never have a tank without them.

Been looking for a shark nose for ages. Can’t find one for the life of me. Even been looking for neon gobies but no luck. I’ll pass on the cleaner wrasse too then. Thanks

Liveaquaria has sharknose in stock and on sale, otherwise Petco can normally order them. Other cool options would be court jester goby, or black line blenny. I love my aiptasia eating filefish and they seem to only eat the same corals as Coral beauties.

I’m in Canada. Don’t know if they even ship out here or if I would subject a fish to such a journey. Not established enough yet for the court jester if I’m going w an upgrade. Maybe the Lenny. Definite worth looking into. Thx :)

LA does actually ship to Canada it seems and I believe anything from their biota section or divers den section ships from Wisconsin. Their ORA stuff would ship from florida.
CB court jesters eat flakes really well, but they would need to be fed constantly, so like you said probably a bad idea if the tank isnt well established.

I think its 50/50 if they will eat inverts. Mine is easily 4 inches long and doesnt touch anything other than the food I feed.

I do have a 2 year old, he loves to watch the tank and its nice to have wrasses who are active.

I have to agree with @Geebs19 on the Maroons, I really love my clowns but the female does have an attitude. Happy with my cleaner Wrasse, he did bug all the other fish for awhile but now they just ignore him and he just cruises around the tank . The yellow coris wrasse is great, we have one in each tank, active with nice color.

As long as you have a lid/cover it's basically a non-issue. I have have a Melanurus and a Blue Star Leopard. Occasionally the Melanurus tries to make the Blue Star Leopard jump out of the tank but the lid stops it. As for the stocking list it looks good, but I would avoid the cleaner wrasse as they are really hit and miss for captivity and can bother your fish trying to constantly clean them all the time. Stick with the Yellow Wrasse and maybe a cool fairy wrasse (ie Lubbock's/Tri-Color/Multicolor).

The tank I’m looking at doesn’t have a lid but I think I’ll sucker my husband into DIY ing one for me. Get him hooked on the hobby. Helps justify the expense lol

Nothing wrong with DIY lids. Not very hard to make and a very simple solution to keep your fish where they belong. All fish will jump at some point (although wrasses are more prone) so a lid is a wise precaution regardless of which fish you keep in your tank.

I’ve got a lid on my current tank I do love the peace of mind...
