For me - no problem keeping this Red Starfish for over 3 months. Urchins below died after one week.

I believe those knobby starfish are one of the hardier ones but also starfish are long lived so I think the difficulty comes from them only lasting a few years.

Idk why you have a problem with urchins! Maybe something in transport along the way.

It really depends on which starfish, which urchins. Linkia stars are notoriously difficult, but sand-stirring starfish and serpent stars are easy. Tuxedo urchins, pincusion urchins are moderately easy, and I really don't know about the rest.

I haven't tried to keep a starfish in many years but I didn't have much success when I did.
I have had success with my Urchin, its been in my tank for almost two years.
Several months ago he lost a number of spines and I thought he was done for so I started to feed him additional nori and today he's fine.
