I’m in a predicament on which one I should get I would have to make a custom lid for my nano 10 g and hopefully that would cut down on evaporation . I know I need to get a lid just in case it just hasn’t been very high on my list of things I need . Or I get a ato system off of Amazon and then don’t have to keep toping off

What should I do

Ato for sure. You still want a lid, but you can get a screen mesh one. I believe even with a glass type lid you will still have evaporation

hey so I did get a ato from Amazon before for like 30$ it worked great. However the feature that stops it from running longer than 10
Seconds failed. Luckily I had no huge swing, but I went back to the smart micro ato. But that’s just my experience

I am using these, simple, cheap and they work. I have them fitted with 60mml bottles so even if they dump their contents in one go, it wont cause a problem. Only down side is the bottle poking above the top of the tank but Im working on a solution/disguise for that.
Amazon product ASIN B09PFVJZJG

I would get both.....lid is needed more to keep fish in than evaporation. Unless you have an air tight tank (which you don't want for the health of the livestock) you will always have evaporation which will require topping off, either with an ATO or manually.

ATO ranks higher! I’d get that first, but still use something temporary over your tank to prevent losing fish until you get/make a better lid.

Get an ATO, summer is coming up, you will want to leave your home to enjoy. Nothing ruins a good time like worrying about the fish. Get a good reliable ATO, not the cheapest one on amazon. After that you just need an auto feeder, then you're all set to go on vacation.

Get a TUNZE ATO. They are well worth the money and work well!

I bought 2 of the Miofis ATOs. One for a back up. The thing has been working flawlessly for a year now.

Hey do both. Buy the ATO and then get some sheet of lighting egg-crate and cut it to fit. Thats what I did. Just realize that you’re going to lose some PAR to any cover you go with. You get a lot of oxygen exchange with an open lid!

I’ve had great experience with the Duetto 2 ATO.

ATO is a must have for me with or with out a lid. I would run a mesh lid if i ran lids.
I'm running this ATO on my IM 20. Its only been a month or two but it has been flawless. I also have Tunze JBJ and auto aqua kamoer ATO units. If the cheap one last I won't be buying another $100+ ATO unit.

Amazon ATO

Egg crate can work but many smaller fish like gobies and fire fish can get through. Mesh would be better IMO
EDIT: nevermind I see it is mesh and egg crate combined. Nice

Yea works pretty well and is a quick cheap DIY solution. I noticed that I lost about 20 PAR with the egg crate being used, so I cut out a mesh modification. The mesh came from Amazon. Using the mesh to regain some PAR prevented me from needing to further boost my lights…more energy and less use-life.

Get both!!!!! A lid can be made with a provision for a ATO.

How did you use to attach the mesh to the egg crate?
