Has anyone used this to add nitrates? I bought some GLA potassium nitrate and added all 450g to 500 grams of water and it’s not dissolving. Was hoping to make something strong

I bet this is right.

AI Overview

You will need approximately 1.3 gallons (about 5 liters) of cold water to dissolve 1 lb of potassium nitrate, as its solubility is about 1 lb per gallon in cold water.

Thank you I googled it and didn’t see anything

Just last week (for the first time ever in over 30 years of reefing) I added nitrates to my reef. I used food grade sodium nitrate that I bought online then used this calculator. It worked for me. Good luck with your situation.

Edit: the results from this calculator are for potassium nitrate. If you use sodium nitrate there is a small fudge factor that you can find online. I found the values to be close enough to not worry about.

Do not use stump remover.

It can easily be contaminated as it has no purity assurance, and potassium nitrate is not a good choice even if pure since potassium may rise excessively.

Use food grade sodium or calcium nitrate, or ammonium chloride or bicarbonate. Maybe even urea. All are good choices for boosting N. I use ammonium bicarbonate for regular dosing and sodium nitrate is a sudden boost is needed.

All except possibly calcium nitrate are inexpensive and readily available from Amazon,
