I have already read peoples answers to threads asking "is my nem ok?" and it's a white BTA and they all say bleached and "might be able to save" etc...

There is a quarter sized (when open, body is about dime sized when closed) White BTA that looks really healthy at my lfs. The body is a tan colours so its not all bleached, just the tentacles look white. It was sitting on the sand open and almost hard to see when I found it in there and most hadn't noticed it there. As soon as the staff touched it to pull up the body and take a look it closed up fast and tight exposing just the body/tube.

My question is this and looking for a little guidance.... Is this something you would consider buying and placing in the tank because it looks healthy and just ensure to spot feed it often since it won't photo? Or would you completely stay away? At the moment I agreed to take the Green BTA that is much larger and very healthy but, told them I will wait on the white guy and keep coming back to check on it to see how it grows or makes out and if it works out I will take it later. What would you do? And if you would... what tips do you have for placement such as maybe less light and flow for it to regen its zooxanthellae etc?

Thanks!

I have a baby one that was growing in the shades so was almost white with some reddish tips. They can do fine, but will take some time to fully heal.

I would stay away because:

1. BTAs (full ones) are easy and cheap to come by, especially from other hobbyists. No need to spend money on a small baby bleached one

2. You don't know what BTA strain it is, so it might not like the green BTA.

White would not be the colour I would buy.

Beige is fine, just not white.

When they toss their zoo, it’s a good bet it will die, but slowly as it has nothing to photosynthesize, and starves IMG_0311.jpeg

Thats a very fair and honest respone!! I accept that.

If it grows and gets colour back looking like a green nem then maybe I will consider it. BUt I like the first answer I got

Thanks!

Thats a nice nem... Is that the Rose?
Thanks, yup just a Rose, easy to keep, doesn’t wander.
I ended up getting the green bta, really green and healthy looking. Got a free live rock with it because it didnt want to let the foot go lol. It wasnt locsted exsctly where i wanted it but said i wont complain and then this morning it had already detatched and wandered to the location i wanted it. I needed a few more pieces of rock anyways so a free live rock was great.... till i came across this little guy this morning... an aiptasia... ugh
