White Eyes worth it?

I just tried rescuing a purple tang from one of the local guys. The fish succumb to ick; as a result he has white ich on both eyes. This condition has appeared to cause the fish to go blind. The original owner said this fish has white eyes for almost one year now. Is it worth trying to treat this fish with any medication? The fish no longer has ick; but has white damaged eyes. Should I attempt to treat this disease? Even though he had this disease for over one year? Or is he doomed to be blind, he seems to be semi-blind but still has the ability to sniff out pellets.

I would certainly give it a shot. Odds are, if they have been infected this whole time, he will be blind. I think it's worth a shot just to see what happens. Did the guy say if she has been blind for that whole year or just had white eyes for that long? I'm wondering how he fed her if she's been blind for that long.

^^This. Sounds like the fish has a secondary bacterial infection that has gone untreated. Odds are he is blind for life, but you could try treating with antibiotics just in case.

Yes, it appears he had bacterial infection due to being untreated. The original owner said this fish had white eyes for over a year now after he was infected with ick. I will try some anti biotic but I fear he is now blind, but is still able to feed by sniffing out pellets. He had a hard time if it is the water column, but on the floor he can reach the food

Try erythromycin for an eye infection. Minocycline too, if you can find it.

@sanchoy Have you begun treatment? If so, which medication(s) are you using?

Ethromycin has been used for a week now. Prior to that melofix and life guard for several weeks.

He seems fine, just blind. In tempted to manually try to peel of the growth in his eye lens. There appears to be a growth of some sort covering his eyes. Not sure if that will damage him more. Or continue the treatment.

Is the white growth protruding outward? Or does it appear to be behind the cornea?

The growth appears to have grown covering the eye lens. Like it created a new skin like scab over the actual eye. I'll probably continue treatment until next week, if nothing improves I'll manually try to gently scrape at it, I could see his eye underneath the scab layer.

If you can find it, you might wanna add Minocycline (ex. Maracyn 2) to the mix. It compliments erythromycin well, and widens the spectrum of treatment.
