Hello. My 150g display has 4 BTA's. Two are redish and two are white/green. The two red ones seem to be doing fine. They open up when the lights are on and seem to be getting enough food.

The two white/green ones are the complete opposite. Ever since adding them they both seemed to have taken to the shade and they don't seem to have any interest in coming out. They do swell up a little at night and sometimes open up during the day but in general I don't expect they are getting enough light where they are.

I spot feed once a week but I can't really tell if they are doing much with what I am giving them. My nitrate seems to want to stay about 60ppm and phosphate above 3ppm. Anyway I do 20% water changes every 2 weeks. I have a few Euphyllia corals and a Duncan which seem to be doing okay, not really flourishing though.

So yesterday and today I found one of the green nem's sort of hanging like a church bell. Don't know what to make of it but it doesn't seem good. I am not worried about where these guys want to set up shop but I figure if they aren't getting enough light they would move into it. But doesn't seem to be the case with these.

Mixed nems are suspected of carrying out chemical warfare in a closed system. Folks often suggest either not to mix them and /or run carbon to filter out the toxins.

I heard that as well at my LFS. But I assumed they were both bubble tips so it wouldn’t be an issue.

I do run carbon as well pretty much all the time. But still I wouldn’t discount this being the issue.

Although some people don't believe allelopathy is a legit concern between BTAs. I personally have seen some clones thrive while others seem to shrink away in the same tank. That's not proof of chemical warfare, but I personally believe it is a concern. Any chance you have an additional tank you could remove the GBTAs to?
