White spot on butterfly!

I just noticed my butterfly has a white spot on his fin. I am hoping that someone could tell me what this is.

This is a fin ray issue or mreso, lymphocystis which is a condition and not disease. Often its associated with water quality issue as simple as elevated ammonia or nitrate and can be that of water from LFS and not yours. Assure to provide Good water quality monitored by a reliable test kit and feed nutritious food with fats such as LRS nano frenzy and mysis shrimp.

I agree, this looks like Lymphocytis, how long have you had this fish though? Lymphocystis turns up in newer acquisitions. It may get worse before it gets better, but it won’t need treatment.

The fish is pretty thin though - try to bulk it up with multiple feedings each day.

Yes, I only have had him for three weeks. He is already looking better. As far as food goes for him what processed/frozen food do they like best. Thank you for your time!

Thanks for the information! He has not devloped any new spots. I was thinking he might have got it from digging in our dirty sandbed.

Multiple, small feedings all day long will help. You don't want to add too much food, too fast, but just add small amounts for a few minutes, 3 or 4x a day. Watch for other fish stealing food, and feed more if that is happening. As as as food types - small mysid shrimp, or chopped larger mysids works well. So do bloodworms. Avoid brine shrimp, unless it is an item that your particular fish takes in preference to other foods, and then try to find an enriched brine shrimp product. A really good food take a bit more work - live clams or mussels on the half shell (then remove the remaining material after a few hours, before it spoils).
