Hi Experts, bought a small rock with a few mushrooms. Dipped and dropped it in my DT. Was doing ok first few days and started closing and shrinking last few days. Upon looking at it careful, I see white worm like thingy on them.

I have seen white stringy thing on mashrooms before. But, this one look different as it's much ticker... any thoughts or comments on what I should do please. Thanks.

Looks like poriferan sponge. Expose it to air a few minutes or cut away carefully in a container with tank water

Those are mesenterial filaments, basically part of the coral’s digestive system. The put them out when they’re stressed, when they get moved, when fighting with other corals, or even if you accidentally fan them with some water moving your hand in the tank. It’s really nothing to worry about unless it’s a constant thing, should be back to normal in a couple hours.

edit: and as mentioned some sponges on the underside of the rock.

Yes, I see the sponge on the rock too... should I remove it?

Just an update... been watching the mashrooms for few days now and it looks like they are slowly opening up.
