my Sunset monti is getting really close to the Pink Lemonade. I was wondering if I should stop the growth towards the Pink Lemonade? if so, what's the best method to do so? or will they just develop a dividing line between them? I know that an encrusting monti can take over z's and p's but I'm not really sure how it works for SPS?

any help is appreciated. :)

Thanks.

from what i've read the sunset will win.. you may just have to keep trimming it

I loved all the different monti when I first started and now just decided that I will keep 3 and that's it. I sold off the rest. I have a sunset on a round rock that is about 6"X4", an red/orange cap, and a rose digi. I keep the sunset monti rock away from other rocks and will put it on the sand in my new setup. The digi will be easy as it just branches so I can just keep fragging it. Not sure about the cap though. I had a green with purple rim that took over an entire corner of my 75 when I had it up.

I have a few monti digis. I don't mind them at all esp if they start growing. LoL. the encrusting took a while to get used to my tank too but when they started growing, they are steadily growing. I have 3 encrusting on my main SPS rock. I'm not sure if I want to keep them now. I might move them somewhere else where I wouldn't mind them taking over the whole rock. I try to stay away from caps, I have two next to each other in the back of the tank where I want them to grow so the fishes can swing in and out of them. :)

When I did my tank over, I ripped out the sunset monti and never put it in again. It grows like a weed and kills everything in its path. It started growing up a stag acro and would have gone up the enite colony if I didnt cut the acro off.

Sunsets are very aggressive and will even kill many LPS. Kalk will keep it at bay for awhile but it will recover and continue advancing toward the PL. PL likes to encrust too so you'll eventually have a problem.

yikes!!! can I build a line with putty to help slow down the growth?

LOL, it will grow over it just like it is live rock, it may help slow it, but eventually it will go right over it. Why dont you try to get a chunk of the monti out or place a disc for it to grow over and then kalk the rest. How big is the sunset??

My monti's grow right over anything in its path. You'll have to trim it back or move the acro.

Here it shows growth right over the zoo's

Wow didnt realize monti's are so tough. I guess i gotta keep an eye on my orange cap and setosa even though i feel it isnt that tough.
