I recently noted a few of my normally docile Black Axel Chromis acting a bit squirrely which usually denotes some kind of pre spawning activity. But because I had these guys for so long and had never witnessed anything more than occasional 'courting', I didn't pay it any attention. Until yesterday afternoon. I only stepped out for a couple hours and came back to THIS! And please forgive the softness of the shot but I was shooting through very thick acrylic at a 45 degree angle.
Now, first of all, I'd think they would lay their eggs somewhere in the live rock, hidden away fir their protection. This couldn't have been more out in the open if they had track lights running around them. To give you more of a context, here is a FTS. Please don't look at the aquascape as it is a long way from filling in so naturally looks hideous. The clutch is on the left.
Have any of you ever seen anything quite like this before? I have not. The tank is a 500g, btw, and though I do not plan to try to raise the fry, I would like to hear from anyone who's gone through this before to tell me what to expect. Thanks.
