Try fragging the "unaffected" acan polyps and glue them to a new rock/plug and maybe ... just maybe it might pull 'thru.

WOW, really? Trust me I have seen intire tanks crash due to Bacterial infection killing both SPS and LPS.

+1 on alk. Monitor your change in alk. Alk fluctuations can cause acans to recede and melt. slow down on the water changes, the repeated water change can also cause rapid chemical fluctuatons.

Interceptor will also kill black bugs which are known to kill LPS including Acans and Chalices.

ok who has Interceptor for me its only a 40 breeder so i think one pill will work anybody have some they can mail to me

Before you start insulting people why don't you do a little research. I have researched biochemistry for 7 years now and along the way got a degree in it! I think I would know what a bacterial infection looks like, and further more you would have given your right arm to have the tank that the issue broke out in. the tank was a zero nutrient non-Zeo tank that the developer of Bac pellets gave him a system to test out. The issue arose out of high bacteria levels in the tank from overdosing the system to quick.

Assuming I would "give my arm" for a failed reef tank is an insult.

For the record, I know Marine Biologists that couldn't keep a reef tank like most collectors.

Had the same thing happen to me. They started dying off one by one. Lost all my frags while everything else did great. Wish I'd been online back then with all this information. Now I stay away from acans completely.

This has happened to me as well. I have roughly 20+ acan frags/small colonies.

When i see it happen, i remove the "infected" acan and do a Furan2 dip for roughly 4 hours. Then i rinse and put it into my QT tank. After a few days if the flesh is still peeling off, i do another 4 hour dip. Every single time the 2nd dip halts the recession, and usually i don't need to do the 2nd dip. Then i be sure to feed each polyp 2-3 times a week while in QT.

I can't explain why the recession starts, or why Furan2 works. But its worked 100% of the time for me. If i had to guess, at least in my case, the cause is high flow. I've had acans do this that were in the same spot, with the same flow for over 3 years. Then 1 day boom, 4 polyps are gone.

I hope you get it figured out. I love acans and would hate to see you lose all yours. Good luck!

update tested water again today all in check
i removed 7 acans that were melting away all the other ones look great right now
see what happins in the morning

i have been having the same thing going on in my main tank and frag tank i have lost about 15 pices over the last 2 months and have tried everything dips, cut them back,etc all my water tests good also. i wish someone would figure this issue out.
