Why are Scolys so Expensive ?

How small lol?
I have two, both about the size of a nickel when they’re closed up. When they puff up they’re about an inch or a little more across.

I've kept my 4 Scolys for many, many years now. I don't find them to be difficult, but they do prefer lower temps (I keep my reef between 76 and 77), lots of food (I feed zooplankton and cyclops twice a week), lower light and low to moderate indirect flow. If you get a healthy specimen and follow those guidelines, you should be successful. And make sure you don't have any fish that like to nibble at fleshy LPS corals (like the Flame Angel in your screen name).
lol i actually don’t have a flame angle im just a fanboy . I have clowns . Can I feed frozen shrimp?

They are expensive because they are almost never propagated or fragged and they essentially don’t grow. Extremely slow. I have one for 3 years and it’s probably the same size as it first was

Also. They are awesome

also. Button scolys are not scolys. They are more related to acans

Same. I've had this one for about 3 years and it's virtually the same size as when I picked it up.

wow how big is this?

The red one is a baby scoly and is about 1” maybe 1.25” inflated. Button scoly is just a trade name, it is actually a type of acan

The green / orange one is a 2-2.25” bleeding apple scoly

The half blue/half orange one is a 3” Warpaint scoly

I love my scolys. Great corals and can be very colorful. Masters are off the charts colorful and expensive. I keep under medium flow and medium light

I have a bunch and I agree they’re a lot mine are on the higher end of Scolys price wise no true masters but definitely some great uniques somewhat recently I was struggling with them I lost two and a couple receded which was a little bit scary considering the price but I figured out the issue (alk drop) corrected it and they’re doing well again thank god but I would say for me at least they are some of my favorite corals and nothing matches that bright green and orange/red that they get one of my more exspensive ones is the smallest but man is it pretty its the one that has a gold halo and two mouths and a dark red spot on top I’d say they not for the novice reefer just due to the fact of price but if you can afford it they really stand out

I’ve been a bit up and down with the alk I used to have everything in a 36 but I moved houses about 6 months ago and when I did I jumped up to a 60 rimless but before in the 36 it was 9-10alk but in the 60 the alk has been harder to stabilize it at one point I hit 6 (not good) Scolys started to recede wasn’t dosing in the 36 cuz it wasn’t an issue but now I dose and it helped bring my alk up dramatically and keep everything stable I think right now I’m at about 9 it’s been a minute I haven’t tested in a while it’s about that time and as far as feeding I feed frozen coral cuisine AB+ reef roids phyto and roe and I’ve been slacking on feedings but I would say I try to feed about once a week I used to feed every 3-4 days but phosphates were raising so I spaced it out more and that helped to keep my phosphates under control
