It has always been thought that fish burrow for protection; some fish hide deep in caves, some have poison, and some have massive size. However, I have a new theory on why fish burrow; I believe it is not for protection, but rather that burrowing fish are just passive-aggressive bullies.
I have a deep passion for burrowing creatures but they all bring with them troubles -at least in my tank-. Whether it is my engineer gobies attacking my anemones foot -recently stopped-, burying my firefish alive to the point where it had to find a new cave far from them, or my pistol shrim & goby's addiction with burying my poor feather duster alive -I hope he extends his tube as he is a good 2 cm. under sand now- every time I re-dig him out, I have come to the conclusion that burrowing creatures are just passive aggressive bullies that need firm discipline.
