I read they love to hide in caves and crevices. But i can't help but be a little worried 😂

Yep, just doing what they do. I disappointingly never see mine except rarely for a feeding. Every time I think, oh ok cool, at least he’s still in there and alive lol

Only see mine when it’s time to eat. Honestly a waste of such a beautiful fish. Will probably try to rehome it at some point. I have other fish that like their personal time but they still come out and hang out most of the time.

thanks for the insight everyone. royal gramma is certainly alive, and surprisingly more active than I expected. roams throughout the tank. Have been noticing some flashing; will keep an eye on it. oddly it is in bursts of 2x flicks at the same corner of the same rock every time, every once in a while. I believe i do have prazipro at hand if needed.

I must be lucky as mine is out often, but he has many places to hide and will bolt for security when bothered by my large fish. Oddly he is very fierce and will attack my hand when I'm cleaning.

It's hard to discern causation with RGs and the flashing. Is it territorial or is it flukes/ich? The last one I had would flash a specific spot and it usually was in tandem when a fish was near his preferred hang out spots.

Interestingly, when my fire fish (the tank boss) was out and about and the RG happened to flash this spot it would trigger an immediate response from the firefish and he would chase/push the RG off his preferred spot.
