I think it depends on what temperature you keep your house at. During the night, my wife and I like the house “cold” so the AC is set to 70 degrees. Sometimes, even with halides, my heater will actually kick on in my tank during the summer because It will get below 76 degrees. But not too often. I also don’t even run fans in my canopy to cool the halides. But I imagine if you keep your house a few degrees warmer, you might be fighting the heat with halides. They really do get more of a bad rap than they deserve.I have three power heads in my tank right now... they move the water, just not enough. My return pump is strong enough. It is a 1,260 gph There are too many places in my tank where I can see suspended particles hanging in the water.... but not really moving thru the water.
I did almost buy those MH’s! Truth is, I couldn’t handle the heat with a canopy.
But I hope you are happy with your lights and they grow the coral you want. There’s no doubt MANY people are successful with LED’s.
