I have three power heads in my tank right now... they move the water, just not enough. My return pump is strong enough. It is a 1,260 gph There are too many places in my tank where I can see suspended particles hanging in the water.... but not really moving thru the water.

I did almost buy those MH’s! Truth is, I couldn’t handle the heat with a canopy.
I think it depends on what temperature you keep your house at. During the night, my wife and I like the house “cold” so the AC is set to 70 degrees. Sometimes, even with halides, my heater will actually kick on in my tank during the summer because It will get below 76 degrees. But not too often. I also don’t even run fans in my canopy to cool the halides. But I imagine if you keep your house a few degrees warmer, you might be fighting the heat with halides. They really do get more of a bad rap than they deserve.

But I hope you are happy with your lights and they grow the coral you want. There’s no doubt MANY people are successful with LED’s.

Sounds like you are setting my thermostat in my house! Lol My house stays at 71 on the thermostat. So, it cuts off at 70 and turns back on at 72. My tank got up to 78.8 today... that’s the warmest s I’ve seen it get. Before I bought the T5s, my heater would actually come on daily. Just the T5s added 2 degrees to me. Yes, I could have added some fans... the funny thing is on my 1st tank 17 years ago, the one thing I always wanted back then was MH’s and could never afford them. ...now I can’t afford their heat unless I decide to not use a canopy.

Today has been a good day. I started using my DOS dosing system. I finished improving my lights and I fixed my flow issues. I am going to watch the DOS dosing system for a at least two weeks just to make sure I have it dialed in right, but... I am ready to start buying SPS now! Woohoo!

I tried to put 2 Twin-Spot Gobies in my tank last week. I am pretty sure me eel ate them : ( I have not seen them in 4 days now : ( I really thought they were large enough fish to not get eaten.
I miss them. They were really cool.

So, I think I have my flow right now. I have 2 new wave makers set up on each side of my tank I am attempting to get an over all circular flow around the length of the tank. Also have these set to run in full variable mode. I am using the two Sicce poverheads mostly for top water agitation. My return pump is a Sicce 1,260 GPH.

Are you having problems with all 5 acros or just the one you posted?

Just the one. The others seem to be doing okay : ) I say just the one... there are 2 species on the the same “base”. I put it back in my QT last night and the white blemish has spread to both.

one of my other corals is a maricultured piece, but it seems to be doing okay.

I just added this today! My temp will absolutely stay stable at 76 from now on! (I should have bought this before the lights... I might have decided on MH in stead of T5s) I just turned it on.

76 is a bit cold especially for sps, I would try to keep it stable at 78.

Really...? I was keeping it at 78... people on R2R are the ones that talked me into going lower : ) I did a “What temperature do you keep your tank at” thread in the SPS discussions forum recently.

Unless your lights raising it much higher during the day like up to 84. 78-80 is pretty normal. I mine at 78-79 and have $50k of the highest and rarest corals around.
