Hi everyone,
My tank has been holding steady for a while, dino's finally seem to have caved, nutrients looking good and corals mostly happy. I decided I'd like to add one more fish, this would be the last new member in my IM 40 gallon AIO. I could use some advice from any wrasse lovers out there. I could be convinced that some other fish is the way to go too if somebody reads this and something great occurs to them.
First off, my current stock (40G) is:
2x black and white clown fish
1x midas blenny
1x purple firefish
1x Halloween hermit crab (quite large, ~3" shell)
2x peppermint shrimp (~2" each...they did a nice job clearing me of aptasia a while back)
Various snails (trochus, nassarius, cerith and a tiger conch)
My sand bed is fine sand, 2-3". There's a decent amount of rock structure in my tank providing some ledges, hidden nooks, and arch to swim through, etc.
I like the idea of a wrasse as an active swimmer. Currently the middle column of my tank is usually pretty quiet, with the firefish not often leaving his preferred spot, the blenny darting in and out from his nook and the clownfish just clowning around mostly near the top. I also would love a fish that brings some red, pink, blue or green to the party. Bonus points if they like to eat flatworms (I don't have flatworms...but hey...an ounce of prevention, right?).
I'm currently feeding frozen once a day every day. Mix of Rods and Mysis shrimp. I could potentially go to two feedings a day without too much trouble.
Anyway, here are the wrasse that I have considered so far:
1) Melanurus - I love the look of these. Somewhat worried though it would dine on my Halloween hermit or peppermint shrimp.
2) Bell's Flasher Wrasse - So pretty! But also pricey.
3) Carpenter, McCosker, Linespot or Royal Flasher - All seem pretty nice and not as expensive as Bell's.
4) Sixline - A little worried this might be aggressive towards my current fish
5) Fairy Wrasse - I don't know much about these, but it seems like some, like Lubbock's could be appropriate for my tank.
I'd appreciate any thoughts people have! Thanks!
