Wrasse help

He was just fine this morning and four hours later I came home and I saw this. I am looking for any help and wondering if he got too close to my fox face? He is no just laying on the sand still breathing but that wound or whatever doesn’t look good.
Any help?

It looks really swollen on that white part. Completely white and he has just stopped swimming

It looks as though he may have hit himself on the rockwork however I’ve seen something similar on an old thread from 2016 with an injured melanurus.

If I remember correctly this situation turned out to be an infection from a wound, so you’ll want to try and Quarantine him if you can. I’d personally do Metroplex, Kanaplex and Furan in a QT. And with any other fish in the display feed them with plenty of vitamins and keep their immune systems strong.

Is it just on the fish's left side? If so, then it is likely an injury or an injury followed by a bacterial infection. More systemic diseases would be spread more randomly across the fish.

How long have you had the fish though? There is one systemic disease that infects new wrasses, called Uronema. It causes lesions that look like wounds, but are actually caused by internal protozoans. It is almost always seen in newly acquired fish, not long term captive ones. It isn't treatable.

As said, a picture under white light would help diagnose this.

Selcon and garlic will not cure any active infections. I'm not sure how that advice got spread so widely across fish forums, but it just doesn't work. I call it the "chicken soup syndrome". Just like how Grandma's chicken soup doesn't actually cure any diseases, but most people get better after eating some (and they would have gotten better had they not eaten any).

I may have missed it, how long have you had the wrasse? I'm hoping to rule out Uronema here....

I have had the reason a little over a year. And so then question should we use the Plexes mixed in all the time?

I don't prefer to use Furans, but you can mix Metroplex and Kanaplex. I prefer Neoplex over Kanaplex though, less toxic if the dose is too high or too long.

Thank you for the advice on that stuff. I am sad to say he has passed. I got home from work and he was dead. Sad day.
