I have a 36 gallon Elos MIDI mixed reef setup, and the only fish I currently have in there is a pair of Wyoming White clowns. I'd really like to add 2 or 3 fine wrasse specimens, and it's about time to make some decisions. The main candidates, in decreasing order of appeal, include Rhomboid, Lineatus, Flame, McKosker's Flasher, Exsquisite wrasse, Yellowstreak fairy, and Blue Flasher.

But first I've got a couple of questions:

1) Which of these sweet wrasse combinations should I go with? (taking into account species compatibility and color combinations)

2) Are all of these wrasse species suitable candidates for a 36 G tank?

3) Should I add these fish at the same time? And if not, what would be the optimal sequence?

Any and all advice is welcomed, as this is my first time delving into the colorful world of the wrasse, and I'd really rather not screw it up too badly :squigglemouth:

These four will require a larger tank. The suggested tank size according to LA for the following are Rhomboid 75g..Lineatus 90g..Flame 90g..Exsquisite 70g.. Full grown they just wont have the room they need. I realize those numbers arent 'law' but they are pretty accurate as for each fishs needs.
You might be able to get away with a mckoskers tho. I would look into the housing requirements for these beautiful specimens before jumping into purchasing one.

Listen, the best three would be a McCoskers, a diamond tail and a Blue Flasher. Then you are looking at something beautiful, small and great personalities! Flashers for the nano, fairies for the larger tank.

This is probably the combo I want to go with for my nest cube
Black ice clown pair and the three wrasses I mentioned above, maybe an eight line as well.

Thanks for the solid advice. That sounds like a rather colorful and educated selection, and I'll probably just go with it. You wouldn't happen to know where one might find one of those beautiful diamond tail wrasses, would you?

I would go with these three Flame, McKosker's Flasher, and Blue Flasher. I have a yellowstreak fairy and I think itwould be too big for your tank.

Very rare unfortunately and probably around $200 when you can find them, so you may want to do the other two and keep on the lookout for the diamond tail!

The flame would be a great choice as well if your tank was a little bigger. They get to be about 4 or 5 inches and need a bit more space than the smaller flasher wrasses. Come to think of it Maybe you should stick with two flashers, i'm worried about the 3rd in a smaller tank, things may get heated.

idk if this is right or not i always thought it was a bad idea to keep wrasses in a small tank together. my 6 line is very territorial in my 90

Thanks again for all the helpful advice, guys. I suppose I'll add in a McKosker's and a Blue Flasher from LiveAquaria, and see how the tank dynamic is after that. Those diamond-tails seem to be about as rare as hen's teeth anyways.

great choice on the McKosker's and Blue Flasher. Red Sea 8 Line and Attenuatus are seasonal so when you get a chance to get 'em, do it! good luck. :)

btw, what are the dimensions?
