What intensity do you guys run your lights at for what tank depths? trying to figure out what to start with for a mixed reef, i was thinking of something around 50% and raising or lowering it from there

IMO it depends on tank depth, and what you've got in the tank. Can you tell us what you're working with?

I'll add that I've got no experience with the gen5, but I've got gen3s and I run them on the AB+ setting for my 50g cube. I've kept it as a mixed reef, and those light settings worked fine.

I dont have the G5 I have the G4's and I run a mix of AB+ and bluer for later in the day. I will say with the AB+ at 100% brightness for the light. with the apogee 510 i am renting from BRS I was only getting about 210 par 8" under the water directly under the light with my diffuser and about 230ish par with the diffuser removed. Much less par than I was expecting the lights to be putting out. I thought I would be getting around 300 at only 8" down. its 130-150 all over my sandbed 20" down. Lights are mounted around 9" off the water

This is from the PAR database portion of the lighting forum. I hope this helps.

I setup a small display tank in home office. I plan to make it SPS dominate.

Being as this is my first time using LEDs I borrowed a PAR meter from my LFS. In the past I would simply place the corals anywhere I wanted in the display as I was running more than enough lighting with MH and T5. I was unsure if these two fixtures would provide enough PAR so that is why I tested. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered. In all the years I’ve been reefing I never checked for PAR. I simply looked for signs from the corals concerning placement.

Based on my results, I’m glad I didn’t grab a third XR15.I like a very white look to my display so I am very happy with the current settings. With the PAR tested I should have no issues placing SPS just about anywhere in the display.
  • Tank size:
  • 36"x18"x18”
  • Type of meter you are using for measurements:
  • Seneye
  • Type of lighting:
  • Two Gen 5 XR15 Radions
  • LED users if possible include percentages used for different colors:
  • 100 intensity. All channels run at 100% except red & green, both 30%
  • Height of lighting over your water:
  • RMS Arms(9”)
  • Depth of water:
  • 16" (rimless)
  • Pumps or power heads running?
  • Yes. Everything on.
Surface measurements(just under waterline) are listed in black text.

Rockworks highest point is 9” from the water surface.
