Yellow Assessors in groups.

Had a yellow assessor for around 6 months but haven't seen any for sale since, that is until today when my LFS got 2 in. I did a bit of bartering and traded some frags and a red bubble tip nem with a bit of cash adjustment my way and came home with both so I know have a trio.
Question. Has anybody kept these charming little fish as 2 or more together if so how well did it go?

Yeah that's my understanding but don't actually know of anybody who does.

Managed to grab a quick video of the trio. Still very much settling in but doing well. One of the ones I bought yesterday came with a little damage but nothing too serious.

I don't have any...... yet lol. But I've been wanting to get Assessors for a long time. From everything I've read from people that do have them, Assessors are way more peaceful than other Basslets even though most sites list them as Semi-aggressive/aggressive. Still a little territorial of their chosen cave, but much more relaxed and can be kept in groups.

Basslets often get confused with the Dottybacks which are aggressive esp when compared to the Basslets which are mainly peaceful like the Royal gramma of which I currently have an established pair.
In the past I have also had a small group of Royal grammas. Here's a video of them, never had a problem with any

Great fish. They’re a little goofy and swim upside down sometimes. I’ve had both yellow and Randalls assessors. A little timid at first but they come around once comfortable.

yup this. They have no sense of up or down.

Mine are staying more and more out in the open hardly ever upside down at least when out and about.
I took this pic before my lights came on this morning. They were out playing around where they stay most of the time around the reefscape on the far right of my reef. Sorry for the reflections in the front glass.

Know this is an old thread but I'm curious how your trio of yellow assessors have done long-term @atoll ? I'm considering getting some for my tank but can't find many threads about keeping multiple yellow assessors in the same tank.

Hi, I don't know how long assessors live. They are secretive fish and zi only tended to see them when adding food. They hung out together behind the rock work on the far side of my tank. I really saw the 3 at the same time. One day about 9 months I noticed only one and I still have that one. I never noticed any aggression between them.

@atoll I’ve heard of them living for over 10 years, they’re related to the Marine Betta which is quite long-lived. What’s your total stocking now and how old are your fish?

I am medium stocked in a 100gallon. However my largest fish are a copper band of 4" abd a mimic tang of similar size all.otger fish are 1 to 3"in size mostly 1 to 2"BTW the lifespan is 5 to 7 years for the yellow assessor.

Thank you for the info! Nice to know you didn't see any aggression between them. Just saw your other reply too about their lifespan so thanks for that also
