PS: Not to cause trouble, but I believe the last time I looked, Blue Eyed Koles were quite a bit less expensive than a Yellow Eyed Kole. So if you paid the wrong price for the wrong one… (?)

Could be a two spot. Do you see any orange lines or spots? Almost looks like the colors of a tomini, but wrong shape tail.

no orange lines his tail is lighter whitish/brown

he also has zero blue along his eyes which makes it confusing

he also has a spotted face and then throughout his body its darker brown lines

okay… is this normal for them too lose that yellow eye color when stressed? because he has 0 yellow at all

he is doing great so far already picking at the rocks
They can lose all color under stress- typical of tangs and surgeonfish

I Googled Yellow Eyed Kole Tang Images, and this info came up about 3 fish that are all considered Kole Tangs, according to this data base:

if i had to pic one it looks closer to a two spot for sure

Could it be a juvenile Lavender (Acanthurus Nigrofuscus)?

I kind of agree with two spot, but there's really only one spot, and the tail doesn't look yellow. There's something about the shape that makes me think Acan rather than Cten.

I think you are correct on this, since there is only one spot over the base of the caudal fin, the fish in question has neither yellow nor blue eyes, coloration and description match pretty closely, and I noticed the head shape did not look like Chtenochaetus but I did not realize it does match Acanthurus.

I think I was thinking of some other type of tang being the blue eye. Oops. I have those days. Looks like you figured it out though. Yippie!
