So about a month ago I got a yellow tang. Looked very skinny. He's been in a quarantine system for 4 or 5 weeks. I got him eating and looking good. I figured it was a good time to put him in the DT. Then he went backwards. He's getting skinny again. My other four fish eat and are active all the time. I really don't want to lose him. What might be a good way to fix this? If anyone is interested in taking him I'd be all for it as well.

Could be parasites but hard to tell. Can you post pics?

Any spots or visible signs on the body? Have you noticed white stringy poop? Any aggression in your DT and have you tried feeding nori?

Theres one white spot towards his tail. The 4 other fish (coral beauty Angel, melanurus wrasse, pair of maroon clowns) all go about there business. I don't really notice any aggressive behavior. I haven't noticed any white poop. I have tried nori. The other fish don't care for it. The tang seems interested but has yet to eat it. I have noticed he breathes heavy as of late and lays on the bottom. But periodically gets up and swims around. :(

Could you post a pic?

Did you treat for anything while it was in QT?

Have you done a fw dip to rule out flukes? If not I would start with that. Also, remove the tang back to the QT if possible.

Definitely start with a fw dip!! And if its his first dip I always start with four minutes in aerated freshwater with an air pump connected to tubing and hold him in a net and put the tubing under him to essentially "blow" the flukes out of him. Is there anything noticeably wrong with his gills? Flukes love hiding in tangs gills!

Whatever it was I didn't catch it in time. He's dead :(
I've moved my other four fish to quarantine to be sure they didn't catch whatever it was the tang had. I didn't treat for anything other than stuff to rid internal parasites and something for ich. I don't understand what could have caused it. He was looking really well and active as ever and then went downhill.

If it is flukes, you need to work very fast because they will get everywhere in your DT if not taken out and those symptoms sound like flukes to me! Ive lost 11 fish to flukes so I have a good idea of it. Also, you could try treating him in QT with melafix after a dip if you don't see flukes come off after the dip.

He died... :(
I moved my other fish to quarantine. Should I do a fw dip for them? I've put so much time into all this I really don't wanna lose them too..
Right as I started noticing something wasn't right, he was breathing pretty heavily

Aw shucks! So sorry:(. It could have been the stress of going in the new tank. It doesn't make a ton of sense though because tangs are usually pretty hardy when it comes to diseases in my experience!

The other fish haven't shown any signs of illness luckily. Stress sounds like a strong possibility. I've been looking at a kole tang and a lfs. Do you think it would be a good tank mate? My other fish don't fight at all.

What are the other fish in the tank? how big is your tank? Those fish are great for reefs and are major algae eaters! they're overall pretty good fish but they can get pretty aggressive with other tangs depending on the type.

Right now I have a melanurus wrasse, a coral beauty Angel and a pair of maroon clowns.
It's a 75g. I know it's a bit on the small side for a tang but I have a 112g waiting for when these guys all get bigger. :p if a kole was the only tang would it be okay?

New Life Spectrum has a few foods I have been really impressed with. I recently used the probiotic for a fish with a serious injury. They make Ich guard and something for parasites too. Take a look...

I agree with Katrina71. I would wait at least a month before adding anything. But yes, he would be a great fit for those fish! If anything, those maroon clowns are the aggressive ones lol! Yes, you will definitely need that bigger one, especially for the tang.

Sorry for your loss! Hope other fish are fine!

Alright. I won't add anymore fish. But the ones I have have fast gill movement. I don't know whats going on. I tested everything today and everything is almost exactly the same as it was a month ago. Nothing out of line. Could it be gill flukes?
