My yellow from @Biota_Marine is thriving, was the size of a quarter when I got him 2 years ago and now he’s the boss of the tank!

I do think that the hybrid ones are a bit different. Smaller. Not as long as of a face. Size is the biggest difference. IMO.

Here's a video. The larger one is wild caught the other 3 biotas . I'm seeing a bit of difference in the shape of the head especially by the beak but im not sure it's something I would notice if i didn't see them side by side and maybe its my imagination? They are coloring up nicely.

I recently bought one, but returned it after seeing it’s behavior in QT.

I just picked up 3. they are small, and pale, but I understand they color up quite well in a few months.

I shall see myself apparently.

It is a conversation that typically doesn't happen much like talking politics or religion at an extended family dinner. Sadly. Someone will pick apart something to prove their point.

The funny thing is that if either of the two members here shared their tangs and didn't say which was which no one would know the difference. BTW both @exnisstech and @TX_REEF do an awesome job of posting in a neutral point of view. Commendable.

Yes there is a difference in appearance vs wild.
And yes the captive bred yellows are a good substitute.

Why? Hard to say. Personal opinion, bias, other? Are there any scientific documents or peer reviewed papers discussing or showcasing the difference? Not a challenge to you or anyone just talking out loud.

The purple has been with me for almost 8 years. Other than the I'm bigger than than you swim throughs it's pretty mellow. It never targets a single fish just let's everyone know who's biggest. Actually the Naso is bigger at 9 years but she's chill.

I got my 3 biota yellows, I'm trying to source a purple now as well. My tang obsession will be complete.

Honestly the sailfin tang is probably my favorite, but he put the three yellows thru their paces when they initially got in the tank, thankfully over-feeding for a couple days mellowed him out!

The come small and a bit pale.

But they grow and colour up fast!

I can’t tell the difference between captive and wild now.

However price, wow, $300 Canadian and they sell fast.
