Anybody have a nice school of yellow tangs in their tank? Its something I've always wanted in my tank but never had a big enough tank to support.

Do they generally get along with each other? Are they aggressive towards other tangs or tankmates?

I have not had one as I have not had a tank, but have seen it done. I believe the key to success is that there are more than 2 or 3 and that they are introduced at the same time. There is a pet store where I live (ironically only sells dog & cat stuff) that has about 6 in a 180, but there are only 1 or 2 other fish in the tank. They have been that way for at least 5 years so I would consider long term success.

Thanks. I would put them all in at the same time for sure. I'm looking at maybe getting 5 smaller ones at the same time, so nothing too huge, but big enough to make that splash of yellow in the tank.

that will be awesome looking, with those little tangs swimming around and maybe school a little. i attempted twice to keep one and i failed both times, thinking it was because i was pretty primitive caring for my fowlr. this time will be different.

Mine will be in a fowlr, and I have stacks of different nori to offer them already. 5 smaller tangs shouldn't make a huge bioload increase by adding at the same time in a 200+ system I'd imagine.

THe buggest thing is to add them all at once. I tried to add a second yellow tang after reaquascaping a bit and he got bullied so bad that I had to bring him back to the LFS. I've added other tangs without an issue, but usually tangs with similar body shapes will fight. My YT also bullied a kole tang that I tried to add, but had no issues with a tomini, sailfin, or hippo that were added after him.

Thanks. I do plan to add other tangs as well to the mix. Right now, I'm only considering an Achilles, Salfin, and Orange Shoulder to join the group. Maybe a traditionally or yellow belly blue hippo

May want to rethink the achilles. Amazing looking fish, but they have poor survival rates in aquriums.

Oh I know, trust me. I had one a while back, but I think my tank was just too small. Gave him to somebody with a bigger tank and he's doing great.

I'm not new to this SW thing :)

Not implying that you are, lol. I've seen plenty of experienced reefers try them only to have them die inexplicably. They were housed in large tanks and were eating, but just didn't make it

Oh yeah...I'll probably try one, from a reputable dealer, like from LA DD, and if he doesn't survive, I'm done with them. I won't kill 10 fish just to get one to survive for my own personal benefit.
