Hello all I’m looking for some input on my yellow tang school. I bought 10 yellow tangs. I had 8 in my frag tank and now have 7 (lost one to a power head and fixed that issue) and I have 2 in another tank as back up if all hell broke loose.
With the 7 yellow tangs they have singled out one tang and keep it pinned in a corner. The yellow tangs seem to take turns keeping that fish in the corner along with other fish in the tank ( a purple, kole, and wrasse all keep that yellow in a corner). I was thinking of removing the fish but will they just then single out the weakest one again? I give the fish its own clip of nori and make sure its feed and it seems to be doing fine.
Any ideas?

Once they're done with the weak one they will target another and so on. IMO you don't have nearly enough rock to house a group of tangs much less a large group of the same species. I keep 4 yellows in a 84x30x25 tank but I have a lot of rock that they can swim in front of, behind and through.

I have little to no aggression in this tank with 8 tangs total

EDIT: Sorry I see now you were asking the OP.

3 of the yellows are from biota. All the other fish are from local stores. I've had most for years with the naso being my oldest at 8+ years.

I also keep a couple of tangs in a tank that is too small for tangs but ive make it work by designing the rock work with the fish in mind.
IME the right scape can be the difference between success and failure when it comes to keeping fish without aggression. This yellow is wild caught and the two spot from a LFS. They've been together about 2 years

Interestingly enough with the live rock. The whole other side of the tank is full of rock but all the fish prefer the open area and the egg crate. They are very rarely in the rock. In fact at night. Every fish hides under the egg crate- I found that very strange. It’s been like this for a long time now.

IME that isn't normally behavior. Every tang I have has its own spot in the rocks except the large naso and mingi and they have their spots behind the rocks. Unless there is rock work not shown that is far to small an amount IMO
