I’ll just come right out and say it: I kind of hate the Lasermelon. The Laser and I have just never gotten along well. It’s always been the kind of Acro that, when everything else is rolling—looking good as ever—it’s the one that remains frumpy. Always seemingly struggling to catch up with its tank mates. Almost never happy and thriving.

And I suppose that’s exactly why it seemed like a good choice for the advanced-level grow-out last spring. In that regard, it definitely was. The Laser is not an easy Acro to make happy.

I knew this contest would generate some genuine heartache, and I wasn’t expecting any massive colonies at the end—because this just isn’t a fast grower either. But fortunately, some of you do have the touch with this piece. We’ve definitely got some solid-looking winners here—each of them beating the odds and figuring out how to keep this thing happy. That first year with any Acro is always the slowest, always the toughest. So to see this kind of growth and stability in a coral like this is a real testament to the skill of these three growers.

So let’s get rolling.

My man @Jasonak — showing all of us that not only can this thing be grown, but it can actually thrive in just a year’s time if placed in the right hands. And those were indeed your hands, my friend. I don’t know exactly what’s in the water way up there, but you’ve definitely got the winning solution. I didn’t even know this kind of growth was possible with the Laser, so let me be the first to congratulate you on your epic win with this very difficult beast of an Acro.

In second, @Troylee — you did it! Even in the face of those wild doser quirks, your Laser held steady and kept growing, earning you second place in this most brutal of grow-out competitions. Well done my friend!

Rounding out third, with another great-looking, stable Laser Melon, is none other than @Sushitheshiba. Phenomenal coloration on yours, and overall just a beautiful Laser.

And with that, our Spring 2024 grow-outs have come to an end. Congratulations once again, and thanks to everyone who participated.

And one last time—a massive thank you to the Battle Crew! Your official BC Grow-Out organizers, without whom these contests would absolutely not be possible. There are a tremendous number of moving parts, both in front of and behind the scenes, that I could never even begin to manage on my own. So from me personally—and I’ll speak for the rest of the contestants as well—thank you guys for making these happen!

Congrats Jay! No doubt about that one! And congrats to the 5 who made it to the end! It’s a tough piece and hard to make happy without a doubt! I’m looking forward to seeing these again in a year as it seems mine has taking off since the last month of the competition I’m sure everyone else’s also. Special thanks to Adam for holding these!

Thanks! This was under full spectrum with whites.. when I do the blues with an orange lens it gets crazy colors!

dang! Great growth. The coloring on #3 is killer! I'm just getting my nub I got from Camaro Show to finally start coloring up. It is growing down and out and I expect the plug to be covered soon enough. What PAR are people keeping it at?

Congrats!! I wanted to buy one, but none were available.

Now after hearing how hard they were, I want one even more. 🥲
