Hi everyone, I’m looking for some help with one of my Zoanthid frags. I have a few different zoa frags in my tank, and while my scrambled eggs zoas are fully open and thriving, another frag looks ticked off . I’ve ruled out lighting issues, and I don’t see any signs of zoa spiders, vermetid snails, or any visible pests or irritation like spots or damage. The affected zoas just stay closed, and I’m not sure what else could be causing it. If anyone has ideas or advice, I’d really appreciate it!

The bottom picture? I mean they’re not fully open, but they’re open. I’d be more concerned if they weren’t opening at all. What about flow? Are they getting hit with too much current?

I wouldn’t particularly say they are getting battered with flow but I will move them to see how they react.

Have you added anything new to the tank recently? A few months ago, I added a frag rack and one particular species of zoa (out of the dozens I have) on two different frag plugs retracted within a few days. They stayed retracted for weeks until I removed the frag rack, and then a month or so after that as well. Eventually they began to open back up and now are fully open but not fully colored up yet. It was weird.

I haven’t no. I’m going give them a dip and see if that works.

The zoa look like they are stretching instead of sitting flat on the rock which could mean they are not getting enough light

I agree, to me it looks like its stretching for more light. I would move it into a brighter spot and see how it goes, but thats just me.

Ime zoas par requirements are 50-150. Unless you are keeping them in a really dark spot, it might be something else. I always keep my zoas no less than 100 par and no more than 180 par which seems to be perfect.
