Light: XR30 G2 about 10 inches above the water
Tank: WB Peninsula Mini 15
Testing Kit: Hanna for both Phosphate and Nitrate
Water: Rodi water with 0 TDS
I don't think I overfeed because i get 0.01 in Phosphate and 0 in the Nitrate (I think I'm doing the testing right). I have to keep vacuuming...
Hey everyone, I have coralline algae growing on my front glass. I know that’s a good thing because my tank is mature and healthy but it’s also annoying because it’s so difficult to remove. My question is what would be the most effective way of removing it without an expensive blade or scraper...
Hello, so I have been into the reefing hobby for about a year and a half now and about 4 months ago I purchased this 30 gallon tank and cycled it, and placed a few fish and corals in. I am at about the 3-4 month mark and all of the sudden this strongly algae began to grow very quickly and in a...
I know what this one is...
Small cell amphidinium Dinoflagellates.
1.
This is some weird brown algae almost has a Coralline brown dot attached to the rock with a string piece coming off I think.

is this cyano? Trying to figure out what kind of algae is growing all over my tank, and what I can do about it. It’s green slimy stuff that has air bubbles grow up out of it over the course of the day. Recently moved, taking my tank 7 hours on a trip in buckets, and was wondering if the upset of...
Anybody know what this snow is? (And what may have caused this?)
What changed around the time the snow appeared? (about a week ago)
Lights? (bleaching the algae?) I've had an old 2 bulb T5 fixture, but just added a neptune sky 12 inches up only at 25% (afraid of the ugly stage).
Salt? I've...
After being successful with a FOWL tank I decided to take it a level higher and make it a reef tank. I started with KENT MARINE NANO CORAL A AND B and VIPRASPECTRA 165W I dosed accordingly and only once since starting this tank, I want to say a month ago. Im currently still using Instant ocean...
Hello,
I have posted earlier threads of me fighting dinos, and I’m taking all the steps that I really can at the moment. Phosphates up, phyto, Uv, blackouts, h202, manual removal, and lastly silica. Here’s the problem, the dinos have moved from the sandbedbfurther up onto the rocks, and are...
This string algae is starting to take over the tops of the live rock in New tank (3months). Trying to remove with tweezers does not work as they shrivel when touched so they grow back. Corals and clean up crew are happy CUC won't eat this algae, only have one astrea which cleans the live rock...
Can anyone identify this algae that's growing on my glass. Its almost transparent and wavy. Its only growing on the glass and a acrylic frag rack I have beat all the hair algae and now this is growing. How can I get rid of it?
I am having an issue with my tank. I’m struggling with cyano. My tank is a 25 gallon AIO with a Tunze 9001 skimmer, filter floss, and chemi pure blue. My phos is currently 0.11 and my nitrate is 0.0. These parameters have been largely the same regardless of water changes. I’m currently up to a 5...
Hey y’all, just took a microscope video of some dinos, but I can’t quite make out what species. Can anyone identify? PS: videos usually work on a laptop or desktop from my experience.

Hello to anyone who's here (and thank you for reading)!
I think I've encountered my first issue with my reef tank, which is whether I've got dinos, diatoms, cyano, and hair algae - or maybe all four of them at the same time. I don't have a microscope on hand so I'm aware that the best ID I can...
Tank info:
Currently battling dinos and am making decent progress due to more hair, coraline, and film algae showing up.
In range of reef tank parameters apart from phosphates which are elevated to encourage Dino competitions.
Description: this algae looks like brown dots, and i can’t blow it...
Hi, all! First time posting but here’s another algae ID post. I don’t believe they’re diatoms. They sorta look like dinos but don’t have the characteristic trapped air bubbles. It’s brown, it covers the rocks, tank walls, and only the sand that is in the light. What do you guys think?
Tank has...
Hey y’all,
I’ve been battling dinos for a solid month and a half, and they started due to an imbalance in nitrates and phosphates. I had moderate levels of nitrates while having undetectable phosphates. This imbalance arises because I did not think to dose nutrients during a fallow period...
Are these diatoms still or could they be something different, or are diatoms dying and reforming? I'm confused. I'm at about.the 1 month, 1 week mark since putting biospira and first fish in. Some of this algae is Dark brown, some very light brown. Some rust colored (a yellowish rust) like...
hi again yall! weird mucusy, matted web looking stuff in a low flow low light area in our tank.. been around for a little while, doesn’t seem to be bothering anything but it’s ugly & we are curious if we should remove this or leave it alone.. it’s somewhat like an algae growing.. fish, cuc, etc...
I love the look of macro algae aquariums. I absolutely fell in love with @tigahboy.h2o (on IG) setups. They look so good and really inspire me to start a macro algae tank setup.
I’d love to see your macro algae tank setups for more inspiration!
Not sure if I had dinos at first which I thought were diatoms but if these are diatoms then they are reforming. Does adding more dry rock make diatoms reform? Also it's really only taking off on more of the older rock. Tank is about 1 month and 1 week old.
