0 Nitrates and 0 Phosphate.

My new tank (7 weeks old after cycle) has 0 NO3 and 0 PO4 and it has been like that since the beginning. I have a few CUC and a Duncan and 2 Zoas in it.

It been fallow since a couple of fish died in it about 4 weeks ago.

I wanted to dose neophos and neonitro to bring the levels up to avoid a Dino outbreak.

Which one should I dose first?? I read I should not dose both at the same time.

Where do you read that and what was the reason why you should not dose them simultaneous? IMO - you need to dose both if the readings really are 0 on both.

Not giving advice or anything, but wanting to add this to my collection of hobby myths. It goes right there with ‘zero nutrients causing dinoflagellate blooms’ and my all time favorite ‘raising no3 and my dinoflagellate disappeared’.

New tanks always go through the diatom phase around first month maybe into second. Those diatoms aint gonna let dinos in. Dinos need a little more tank maturity and the right conditions to let them in and establish.

I had to double dose neophos and neonitro for multiple months before I got measurable numbers when my tank was young.

It sounds like you are doing the right things. That said, I highly doubt you will avoid Dino’s. Eventually they will come! The question is how bad will the infestation be and how long will it take to get under control.

You may be referring to a specific situation, but diatoms are certainly my not always a phase in reef tanks. I never got any noticeable diatom phase.

49 days after what exactly? I did get what I believe were dinos in my system within the first few months.

Neither- make your own nitrate and phosphate for like 1/8 or 1/16 the price. Or some will say to add bottled Ammonia. Why dont you get some fish in there asap?
