Yes, the smaller one, for sure. On my 36" 40gal, I was running the Maxspect xf330, which is the size down from their large xf350 but slightly higher gph than their jump 2k. It pushes water all the way across and back at 50%. A smaller gyre would cover the 24" space.

What do the others think?

I'm running an xf350 and an IceCap 2000 on mine at 35% - 65% random flow. I'll likely change the flow pattern and maybe decrease the max percent when I add the second xf350.

Here we go, when it was setup way back when lol.

These were the current USA 1080? And one 660 in the back. But I felt it wasn’t right of that makes sense.

With flow pumps more small pumps is almost always better than fewer large pumps. The large pumps are really best used in longer tanks as you need more oomph behind it to push the water that far. Almost any of today's flow pumps can blow the flesh off a coral if placed too close to the output and 24" isn't a lot of distance. I would either go with two smallish (think Nero 3 size) pumps on opposite sides one at about 1/5 down from the water line and the other 2/5 down or one small gyre like the Maxspect 2k. If your return pump is strong enough, I would also put an RFG on it to give a little more random movement. If it was my tank I think I would put a Maxspect 2K on the back wall a little below the top of the arch in your rockwork and set it to about 40% random and put an RFG on the return.

I used a 2K on a Waterbox 15 Peninsula like I just described and it did a very nice job.

I was able to get home early. I just put them in the tank. Heres what we're left with after 3 days in transit:

He sent a free one! The zoas look good and I think they're fine. Both acans still have flesh, so I have hope!

Acans are super resilient, put them where they hardly get light or in a corner of the tank where there is less par and where they get low to medium flow.

Ty so much! It was a great scape and then dinos hit. Now it’s in a totally different tank :)

I'm manual removing what I can reach every few days or so even though it kills my back and even though I have to face the rath of my male clown each time, and have done two rounds of reef flux. I added three conch but only two made it as well as a small group of other cuc members from reef cleaners. I have lessened the light time as well but can't tell if it's helping yet.

have not dealt with the GHA, but I am a recovering from a dino infestation, will tell you my whole sump turned into an algae scrubber, nutrients hit double zeros and here come the dinos. Slow progress with out chemical help. I did do research on the dino-x, its an algaecide. Not recommending it, just that it seems to work great on all types of algae, the big message with users is don't overdose.

I will order some chaeto and try that it will grow with a red light right? That's what I have for my sump.

I think so. Just watch your nutrients and trim the cheato accordingly. You don't want it stripping your nutrients.

It will grow with any light really. Red seems to super charge it

I don't know what the reason is, but I'm inclined to think that it's not the nutrients that are creating the GHA, all of that with my little experience with my tank that has always had high nutrients. Right now I'm at 48 No3 and 1.6 Po4 with no GHA

Agreed.
My nutrients were sky high and no gha for me either.
As Tim said, check for rust on pumps,impellers and those types of things.
