Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I am currently feeding 1 cube a day for 12 fish, every other day I feed flakes or pellets, I still can't get my tang to eat nori.
Mines afraid of it lol.
I rip it up,soak it in a cup of water and feed it like flake food.
He eats the snot out of it then.
Just make sure it soaks up the water then it will sink better, not just float on the top.

@kingranch2003 the corals will take care of it for you. You just need to mount them to the rock in an appropriate place. It's best to either do it right away or wait until you see the base starting to encrust out on the plug. The advantage to right away is that it is easier to mount them before they start to spread, the downside is that they may be harder to acclimate if you don't have experience with that type of coral (getting it in a spot it likes).

Once they start to encrust their plug they are actively attaching themselves to the surface. How that happens depends a lot on the type of coral. For instance a birdnest will typically start some downward branches that eventually fuse to the rock while a digitata will typically just get wider and wider at the base encrusting the rock. I let my Bubblegum digi go a bit too long on its plug so I'm just going to cut the post off of the plug and mount it to a rock. I prefer to remove the plugs or remount them to a larger plug/tile early on but I've been negligent lately.

Here is a shot of the Bubblegum right after I moved it back to the DT from the hospital tank on Dec 30th 2024, notice that while it is firmly mounted it hasn't really started to encrust the plug very much. This would have been the ideal time to mount it but the DT wasn't really in good condition.

Here is the same coral a day or two ago. Breaking it off of the plug now is possible but I don't want to stunt its encrusting so I will instead cut the post off and mount the digi and the plug base onto a rock.

Hope this helps.
I learn a ton of stuff from y'all!

That's a megajohn Tom.
A demijohn is an evil toilet, might clog a lot, overflow, etc ;) :thinking-face:;)
I figured out that I described a megajohn but I was still confused about a demijohn. My best guess was maybe a really small john like the ones at the North Pole in ELF but that didn't seem quite right either.

Thanks, I think you nailed it for me...

Yes there are several models and capabilities for whichever application you would need it for, and they are tailored to the amount of feeding you do. I think vintagereefer got in on the ground floor of this company as far as talking to them and I know he runs one.
Yeah, I'm kinda jealous. :-)

Hmmm. No one brought up one of Demi Moore's ex's?

This is my emergency backup (also the primer pump for the diatom filter). Catherine smelled something hot this morning and the fins on the pump felt pretty hot so I decided not to risk waiting. It slows flow down but it's better than no flow. New pump is slated to come Wednesday.

Taught a class at my kid's school. Went to Mass and my two oldest were serving as altar boys. Picked up kindergartener and ran errands.

So my numbers seem fairly decent today after a day and a half with no skimmer and haven't dosed microbactor 7 in about a week or so.
Nitrate 7.5 retest 7.4
Phosphate .03
Alk 7.4
Calcium 405

Surprised I went from 1.5 to 7.4 nitrates in a week
