Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Tim, I tagged you about Wes's case because it's the only one with solution, mine and Kevin isn't, short story, a trochus scratched the glass and I freaked out thinking it was a broken tank, Kevin lost his Royal Gramma, You were already here about Reefdevil and Walker situations
How does a Trochus scratch a tank???

Best and most humane way to euthanize a fish. My poor royal gramma is on the sand blown up like a puffer fish, breathing rapidly and has lost most of its color. Zip lock bag and in the freezer?
That's what I typically do. :disappointed-face:

Isn't the harvest time 9 to 10 days?
7 days is typical. But, he started with a large jar. I went two weeks before my first cut but I added 8oz of Phyto to 8oz of water week 1, added 16oz water second week, cut the third week.

Typical schedule from what I've seen is Phyto will double in about a week. So if you start with an 8oz culture into a gallon it could take several weeks before it's time to harvest half.

Hi everyone! Very productive and exhausting day today! I forgot to put on sunscreen so my arms are really red but we finished Leo's second pasture!

You feel this is worth the effort?

Been debating if I should try to do this
This will be my first harvest. It's actually pretty easy so far. I've been dosing phyto to try and keep tunicates happy. So far so good and it will save me a ton of money in the long run.

If anyone would like a $10 BRS code, I have one and I believe it's still valid as I haven't used it yet. It expires tomorrow. Just let me know and I will PM you the code.

I harvest mine every week or two. Mine are typically that bright when I cut them. Up to you on how dark and thick you want it.
Gotcha. At this point I'm just feeling a little lazy and plan to do it Monday. I think it's looking good. I saved the jars it came in to put the starter culture in. Do you disinfect your culture containers in between batches?

Not every time, no. When I harvest, if the jars look dirty I do.

I always sterilized in between uses.

Thanks for the mentoring! I truly appreciate it.

Exactly the same thing! Yes you can use it, the sooner the better and follow my instructions above.
The only problem with the stuff I have here is it’s solid pills. It’s not the capsules with the powder instead.

With all your euphyllia, like Kevin said an In Tank treatment would be a good way to go. The human stuff is the same. Could also do a preventative dip on the good looking heads. I assume you have some phosphate in the tank…Ive also seen them shrivel up at zero phosphate, but the trend seems more bacterial or viral, not sure which term is correct
Yea I’m sure I have some phosphate. What dip would you recommend?
