Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I changed 10 gallons yesterday. I don't remember the last water change I did though...

Also, I was messing around in the tank getting some algae plucked on Thursday and the Birdsnest fell and broke. It's weird, the frag plug top snapped right off the stem. I have a big pile of branches I have to glue now.

Sure looks tiny sitting there missing all those huge branches that fell off...

Just kidding, it's still too big for my tank even after breaking.

Don't look to closely at the sand bed - it's littered with things I need to glue to plugs. Mostly Birdsnest and Digis and Hollywood Stunner...
Looks great!

I change 10 gallons every 2 weeks but I still have to dose, not much but if I don't do it parameters go down, I have all the tests at home, Hannah and Salifert but when I go to the LFS I always bring water to have an idea where I am
Exactly. Its just another source to check your numbers. The numbers are usually similar to home tests I bet

Luis, what salt are you using? I use Fritz blue box and I think it mixes 1300-1400 mag. I’ll dump a gallon of mag in the tank once every 6 mos or so if I see it go below 1300.

So I came up with a revolutionary sandwich, I took some inspiration from the Dagwood cartoon, that will change the deli sandwich world! 3 pieces of toast, turkey breast ( stop giggling Keith!), bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise that is held together by toothpicks! I’m going to call it the Turkey Club!
Do you have to be a member to join this club? (Keith dont laugh at this either)

I use Red Sea Blue Bucket, and everything I dose is Red Sea too.

Ive read that article Mike, and I think Randy is a genius. However, almost all of the coral suppliers and reefers who have had long term success with lps (especially euphyllia) recommend higher mag levels. One of the best things Ive done for my tank was to start dosing mag. The euphyllia have especially responded to it.
I see a lower level of mag right before a water change, and a rise after one or after I dose. If those numbers react to significant change and are consistent. I can't figure out how that is different than testing any other element.
I respect Randy as well, a much smarter man than myself and I’m sure his parents cared enough about his education to send him to private school. No talking me out of it, my lps and euphyllia thrive with magnesium at 1400 or higher.

The way I look at it, if my numbers on a magnesium test, repeatable and reportable, if it's not necessarily "accurate", the corals tell me if they're unhappy.

My Birdsnest was "dripping" from the tips (no skeleton) because I had high alk, good calcium, and low magnesium (per my at home kit). I started dosing magnesium and the tips not only stopped "dripping" but increased DRAMATICALLY in growth and branching.

My Anacropora was small and a tightly clustered bush. Since dosing magnesium (per my at home kit) it has started growing longer branches and branching more.

Montipora cap was growing slowly and drooping at the growth edges. Since dosing magnesium (per my at home kit) it has started plating outward AND growing ridges and even some small branches upward.

My Hollywood Stunner was growing without a skeleton on the growth edges and "cascading" down like a waterfall. Now it's growing ridiculously fast, up, out, and all around.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm sure he's correct that the tests are not accurate BUT my experience says that if the at home kit says I'm low, I should probably bump it up some.

My Salifert was well within 100 points of my ICP test. Unless the ICP is wrong, my Salifert is close enough to give me a decent ballpark unless I'm shooting for a specific number.

Four pans of hot stuffed peppers, credit my wife, for Lake tomorrow. Hot Hungarian peppers, hot Italian sausage, stuffing ( chopped up bread) and cheese.
