Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Good morning Walker, absolutely amazing! Are your hummingbirds going crazy? Every time I pass the window they’re 2-3 performing aerial battles. They leave northeastern Ohio in about two weeks to migrate south and they are really going crazy at the feeders in preparation.
Unfortunately no. We took the feeder down when we left for vacation and haven't put it back up. I have seen them around the flowers a lot recently though!

I think I just crashed my reef.

I was filling the ATO chamber and forgot about it. Sump over full, salinity at 1.020 :(

My salt won’t be here for awhile, absolutely no funds, no shops within distance if I HAD funds and no way to get there if I did have the rest of the stuff. Sigh.

Reading online the fish will be ok, as long as they’re healthy. ATO and skimmer shut off and I’m just going to leave it to fate.

I can’t believe I did that 😵‍💫
Most everything will probably be fine and it's better to let it evaporate back than to do another sudden salinity swing the other way. I'd put a fan above the tank to hasten the evaporation a little and just sit back and wait. A salinity swing is bad but multiple swings is worse.

I don’t have many corals, only a few nems ( one of which had gone into hiding)and just four fish. As long as they’re ok then it’s fine. I sadly don’t have a fan but I have a window ac that sits close. I’ll probably bump it on for awhile.

isn't a treatment for ich or flukes to run the salinity low like this?

I’m not sure. I’m definitely not messing with it more than the dry cycle on the air con so we will see in a few days when the level gets right. It’s just I cannot believe I did this lol. Thankfully it didn’t overflow. If I had to guess it’s about 5 gallons of fresh. The salinity was already low (1.022) so I guess it’s not a drastic drop from that. Still both are way too low :(

Oh noo, if you were closer we could meet up and I'd give you a bucket of salt. I'm so sorry. Im thinking maybe you could take out a pot and boil some of the water so the salinity raises and then you can cool it down and add it back? I don't know if that will help or make it worse. It may mess with the chemistry of the water so I really don't know.
The hairs on my arms stood up when I read the “c” word! I read on and see you got good advice. I don’t think it is that dramatic of a drop. When does your salt arrive? I would be happy to look into Amazon and find you a small amount of salt with next day delivery if that would help. Let me know.

Just nems? I'm sure they'll be fine. The nems at the Petco near me are in really, really low salinity water. Sometimes I've gotten a fish from a tank with a nem and it's below 1.020. I bet you'll be fine!

This is what it said when I ordered the box. So I’ve got a bit lol.

Honestly everyone’s always been so kind and helpful, I really hate to impose on anyone’s kindness any more. I feel the main reason I’m still in this hobby is because of this forum.

On today's episode of low carb yummy lunches brought to you by me we have rotisserie chicken and avocado wraps.

My daughter made shrimp spring rolls yesterday and that was my lunch :)

I have no idea if it would work but what if you placed a dehumidifier near the tank if you have one and just run it till you get salt? I think I read on here once that in a pinch, you could add table salt if it was not iodized? but I still would not want to try it. Any salt creep you can try scraping back into the sump?

I would be happy to do it. If you want me to have it sent to you pm me your full name and address and I’ll take care of the rest.

a month? 😳 that's too long. if it's 1.02, how many gallons? just wondering how much salt you are going to need to get it back up.

I just received a text saying this:

"Lisa, this is Kelly! I'm having a barbecue tonight! We'll have steak, seafood, sausage, corn, eggplant, and some wine! Do you want to come?"

This doesn't even seem like a scam, but it is and that's why I'm telling y'all. I was about to respond, to tell them they had the wrong number to be polite, but it's certainly a scam. This scammer will spend days, months and even years being nice to you to build trust. Then they will ask you to do something that could potentially steal all your money, give them your personal info, etc. They can do really creepy things now for money or other things, especially with AI. Even if you just respond once, they will then sell your numbers to other scammers saying that it's an active #. Be very, very careful online, scammers are unfortunately getting smarter everyday.
