Or....just do basic husbandry, regular maintenance and call it a day. My "temporary" tank only has a heater, powerheads, lights, and a surface intake filter on it. Been that way since December and I have exceptional growth. No water changes, controllers, etc. I do dose AFR at 30ml daily because my corals consume that much. Its a 40 gallon BTW

Im pretty close to that in my 40 gallon, too.

I use a 3x3" square of filter floss I change twice a week. No skimmer, live rock in the back compartment of my aio. I do run carbon and do a 10 gallon water change every 2 or 3 weeks because the tank looks better after I do it and I enjoy it (We have all known for a while that, I ain't right).

There's not one strand of GHA in my tank. There could be tomorrow, but not today. That is because Ive been trying to head it off since day 1, preparing for it and not covering potential issues with too many chemicals or machines. This has kept any new growth manageable for my over sized cuc to handle.

Like you, I also believe too much automation makes you more prone to complacency as you'll want to trust the equipment to do the husbandry part for you.

Nope! These are ocean critters that we've placed in a glass box and that's something that has to be managed and tended too.

Ill also say this Cam. You've got the tenacity and resolve of not just someone older than you, but also a really dedicated person that wants to see their goals through no matter what. I've always felt that way about you and I respect that.

So....the reefbreeder 14k Edge bars came in to mount on the outside of my halide fixture!!

Will that fit fairly seamlessly, or are you going to have to fabricate something? Im thinking I may supplement something for uv or more color pop if I can find something compatible with my existing light that'll work for my tank.

the acan is slowly disappearing, thought today that i found the cause with a limpid on my wavemaker. but none are on my acan. chalice is growing rapidly. the area that had been cracked is covered over and it is growing outward. Will take some pics in the morning when the lights come on since the blues are not so heavy

Exactly buddy. Honestly in the end it's about more than just reefing. This is a great approach to life in general.

I can't wait to see what you think of them. While I don't think I need them, I am considering adding the 14k bars to give me a more daylight look to the tank down the road sometime. Did you buy them during their Labor Day sale? I seriously considered buying them but then I figured I might get hungry later so buying food might take precedence. Not sure that was a good judgement call.

Just crank up the light cycle, grow hair algae, eat that, problem solved!
